my experience witb the Orange Pi 5 MAX 16GB
I added a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB to the underside of Orange Pi 5 MAX 16GB, added a few pieces of thin blue thermal pads to the top of the NVME device, and installed everything in the Geekworm N515 case, sold by eleUniverse or from aliexpress. Everything barely fits inside the N515 case. I added the two included heat sinks, and I attached the fan connector to a +5V, ground pair on the GPIO connectors. I then installed Joshua-Riek/Ubuntu-rockchip 24.04 release of Ubuntu. Great work Joshua. Everything works. The fan is noisy but it hardly runs. This is a nice SBC system. The desktop works better than an equivalent RPI5-8GB system. I mostly run VSCode on this SBC. I think Orange Pi did a great job. Be careful with your NVME device. Make sure your NVME does not touch the bottom of the case. Again, I placed 3 square blue thermal pads that get squeezed between the NVME device and the bottom of the case to prevent a short. I used dd to copy the OS from the microSD to the NVME, and then I used resize2fs to expand the partition.
