I had regular kindles more than 10 years ago but got the fire and didn't bother with them. I didn't want to read on my phone. I wanted this but somehow got the Kindle White. I found it heavy with the case so for the first time, I sent it back. I got this. I'm so happy with it. It's very light (lighter than my phone in the case) and you can hold with one hand. Also, the reason I got the white was so I could read at night. It turns out you can read at night with this easily. It has light so you can adjust the brightness. The screen size is adequate and I've read a lot more since getting it. The battery life is decent. I'll add that I had the a Kindle Fire from January 2015 that was still working and charging and I traded that in. I hope this is a good quality also.

I bought this for my husband after how much he like my Kindle Paperwhite and I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked the Basic just as much if not more in some ways. Being slight smaller than the Paperwhite makes it feel noticably lighter and that makes it much easier to hold. The text is crisp and clear and the adjustable sizing makes it easy to read whether you're holding it or propping it up. The adjustable lighting makes it very gentle on the eyes for nighttime reading. It's a pretty sturdy little device and it does everything you could possibly want a portable library to do.

This is a really great product. It holds a charge for a long time. It is easy to store and is small enough to fit in my purse. It is really lightweight and very easy to use.

This is my 5th Kindle and I love it. I had the original scroll wheel Kindle, then the 1st gen Kindle Touch, the 1st gen Paperwhite, the10th gen Paperwhite, and now the 11th gen basic Kindle with no locked screen ads. I grew to hate the ads with their stupid blurbs. Never had an ad that appealed to me or led to a book purchase. Plus, I always considered swiping to open the Kindle to a stupid waste of time. It is there to keep the ad in your face a little longer. The Kindle Touch had ads on its locked screen, but there was no swipe to open, it went straight to where I had left off just like my new Kindle. Now this new Kindle with no ads opens instantly to the last page read in the book. When it is turned off the screen shows wonderful images: fountain pen caps, dip pen and ink bottle, pencil points, etc. Very artistic. The screen size is identical to my 11th gen Paperwhite., the body a lot thinner, a little narrower and a little taller. And lighter. This basic Kindle has a tiny bezel. I made touching mistakes with the totally flat Paperwhite bezel when a finger would wonder onto the screen. Almost the whole surface of the case has a lovely satin finish. The "Kindle" name on the front is shiny and the Amazon Arrow on the back is recessed and shiny. I made the mistake of ordering the fabric case after I had ordered the Kindle, and it came 5 days later. I did. not take it anywhere until the case came. I consider the case to be necessary to protect the Kindle when carrying around and it reduces the tendency to slide off surfaces. Also keeps the screen cleaner. Love this fabric case. My mistake with my first Kindle Paperwhite was buying a cheap case to save money. It was imitation leather and a good case until the cheap leatherette surface started flaking off. The cover also warped over time, though that was more cosmetic than a problem. By the time I wanted a new case, Amazon had none to fit it anymore. I learned my lesson and bought Amazon's fabric case with my second Paperwhite and with this new Kindle. The first fabric case looks as good after 4 years of heavy use as it did new. While this Kindle is very lightweight, it has no "cheap" feeling at all. Thinner than all the others. Turning on, downloading. books, searching, opening the dictionary are all much faster than the 11th Paperwhite ever was (it seems to have gotten slower and very quirky this past year. A number of times when I opened the dictionary it froze requiring a restart. Other times it froze and had to be restarted). Not being waterproof is not a problem as I don't read in the rain, near pools, nor the surf. The slight step up from the screen to the bezel does not prevent me from using my remote page turner. The new Kindle came with the battery charged to 50% and lasted most of a week before it dropped to 30%. I charged it to 73% some days ago and, after heavy use it is only down to 69%. I keep the backlight at level 1, which is sufficient for reading in the dark. I have never had any need to have the backlight higher than level 4 on my 2 Paperwhite Kindles used heavily over the past 12 years. Unlike my other Kindles I have kept this one connected to WiFi all the time. I recommend this Kindle for anyone who wants a conveniently portable Kindle that fits in coat pockets and takes up little room in a purse or bag. Buying it at the start of Amazon's Black Friday sale saved me the price difference of not irritating lock screen ads. PLUS I DON'T HAVE TO SWIPE TO OPEN ANY MORE!! As an avid Kindle reader and someone who had the original white DX and then the 2, God, I miss those Keyboards. I bought this for my mom, who wanted to read books over the summer in Greece. I bought this on Prime Day for 89 dollars. It is so cute. It is smaller than my Kindle. My mom likes it because it is lightweight. I can adjust the font on it, because she has difficulty seeing print in books, which is small. She is now taking it everywhere with her. I taught her how to use it, which was very simple for her. She wanted me to download the classic books for her. When I went to look for them, I had to pay for them. Luckily, I downloaded them all 18 years ago for free and found them in my Kindle History of books. I did not even know they were still there because it has been forever . I like how the purchase came with 3 months of Kindle Unlimited. But I already paid for but it put a freeze on mine and will start taking the payments again in October. Overall, I am happy that she is happy.

I like this little Kindle, and it IS small! It’s not much bigger than my phone and weighs less. I just wanted it to read books at night so it’s easy to hold when I’m laying in bed. The only thing I didn’t know was that it’s not in color so everything‘s black and white. ( like book covers). The more expensive Kindles have color. I also have a Bible on my Kindle and it’s hard to navigate through your Bible. You can find a book, but you can’t find the chapters.(at least I haven’t figured out how to do that yet). It comes with a charging cord, but not a plug so you can charge it if you have a desktop computer. Or you can purchase the plug separately if you don’t already have one. I did not purchase the $32 case by Kindle that folds up, but I did purchase a silicone cover for much less. If you travel a lot and take your Kindle, you might want to invest in the case. It’s very nice. I just needed something to help me grip the Kindle better because it is slick. The screen is nice and it goes into dark mode if you want to read at night and have less light in the room. It’s easy to read during the day. There’s no glare on the screen. I would’ve given five stars if it was a little easier to navigate through books.

I got this for my daughter’s birthday, and it ended up being one of the best gifts I could have picked for her. She’s a huge reader and already loves sharing books and recommendations, so this fit her perfectly. If you have a child who genuinely loves to read, this is such a thoughtful gift. It blends that love of books with just enough tech to make it feel fun and modern. This was a complete win for us.
