3M SCOTCHBRITE IS THE GREATEST
3M is known for making some of the best abrasives and finishing productions on the market. 3M is used in many industrial applications and hard use settings where lesser products would not last. I use this shop pack finishing pads in my shop along with several of 3Ms other products for refinishing wood and metal. These 3M pads save me money over buying real steel wool, and the results are better. There is no oily residue with these, such as steel wool sometimes does. These pads do wear down and eventually disintegrate, but the price is so cheap for the shop pack that they can be replaced pretty easily. A 20 pack for ~$20 is an excellent value considering these are the full size pads. Specs are as follows: Twenty pack (20): -20 full 6"x9" pads -Grey grit -Namebrand Scotchbrite pads Scotchbrite grit goes as follow (it varies a bit depending who you ask). This is not equivalent to sand paper/rough abrasive grit ratings. For example, I use the white pads for finishing wood and finely polished plastic and it doesnt leave marks at all. White can be used with a bit of Alfie Shine or Renaissance Wax to gently clean and protect old wood handles on tools and wooden planes, without removing their precious patina with sanding. The grey I use to remove the gunk left after electrolysis to but a shine back onto previously rusted metal. Again, it leaves NO sanding marks on metal. The green will, the maroon will. Save those for more heavy-duty tasks. I wouldnt use the gray pads on polished wood unless its between finish coats of laqour or varnish. White pad- 7445 Light Duty Cleansing- 1200-1500grit Light grey pad- 7448 Ultra Fine- 800-1000grit Maroon pad- 7447 General Purpose- 360-400grit Brown pad- 6444 Extra Duty- 120-150grit. The 7440 tan pad is extra have duty and has thicker/more open mesh. Its for extreme cleaning or industrial uses. The Green pads you get at the store in the 2 pack(which are cut down full size pads) are hard to find data for, but they are aggressive. They are for kitchen scouring or heavy cleaning and will leave scuff marks on metal like sand paper. Same with the brown. The grey in this review is my favorite all around shop scrubber, for removing rust after electrolysis nothing works better without marking the surface all up.

Scotch Brite Pads -- Effective and Forgiving
I use Scotch Brite pads (not just gray but also green, maroon, and white) in woodworking as part of the finishing process. I sand raw wood with sandpaper up to 320 and when needing light sanding or leveling between finishing coats, I prefer Scotch Brite pads in lieu of steel wool (sandpaper too). With the Scotch Brite pads, I no longer run the risk of leaving steel wool residue which can turn an otherwise beautiful-finish-in-progress to an ugly eye-sore. The Scotch Brite pads are more forgiving if I miss a spot and, try as I might, I occasionally still need a little forgiveness. The only time I've experienced the steel wool residue problem is when french polishing. But for anyone familiar with this process, it's very clear that the slightest blemish is disheartening to say the least. As an additional side benefit, if you're heavy handed like me, you're less likely to level through a coating when using pads instead of steel wool.

Great product and excellent store
I use these pads to buff up my bowling ball. They are really great for anything that you might want to clean, like stainless steel pans, etc. They have different grits so only buy if you want an ultra fine grit. For me, they are perfect but if you have a tougher job like scrubbing off rust, you will want a heavier grit and they designate this by color. Her e is a chart the might be helpful: SCOTCHBRITE GRIT CHART 3M Scotch Brite Nylon Pads: 7445 - White pad, called Light Duty Cleansing - (1000) 1200-1500 grit 7448 - Light Grey, called Ultra Fine Hand - (600-800) 800 grit. 6448 - Green (?), called Light Duty Hand Pad - (600) 600 grit 7447 - Maroon pad, called General Purpose Hand - (320-400) 320 grit 6444 - Brown pad, called Extra Duty Hand - (280-320) 240 grit 7446 - Dark Grey pad, called Blending Pad (180-220) 150 grit 7440 - Tan pad, called Heavy Duty Hand Pad - (120-150) 60(?) Blue Scotch-Brite is considered to be about 1000 grit. (The value inside the parentheses is directly from 3M.) 3M Chart Less Aggressive --------> More Aggressive 7445 7448 6448 7447 6444 7446 7440 Finer Finish --------> Coarser Finish The seller was fast and prompt in delivering the product. The product arrived on time and exactly what was described.

Better than Steel Wool
These pads are kind of like your kitchen Scotch Brite pad except larger, with finer and more abrasive particles. It is great for sanding both smooth and curved surfaces. Sandpaper might be a bit cheaper, but this is really ideal on curves and corners where it's flexibility is its advantage. Think of it as a replacement for steel wool pads - except unlike steel wool it doesn't rust, stain, or get its fibers caught in the finish. I use these primarily for wood finish prep or for minor metal cleaning and prep. The price seems reaonable, considering their usefulness.

3M always good stuff
I love 3M products!!! Well I searched a lot of stores locally and couldn't find any. I found these here on Amazon and decided to take the plunge on the big ole box of pads. Very glad I did, very huge pads..I cut them in half with a pair of scissors. Works like you would expect a 3M scrotch-brite pad to work. Below is a 3M Grit chart I found online, you can see what color and part number would equal the equivilant in sandpaper. SCOTCHBRITE GRIT CHART 3M Scotch Brite Nylon Pads: 7445 - White pad, called Light Duty Cleansing - (1000) 1200-1500 grit 7448 - Light Grey, called Ultra Fine Hand - (600-800) 800 grit. 6448 - Green (?), called Light Duty Hand Pad - (600) 600 grit 7447 - Maroon pad, called General Purpose Hand - (320-400) 320 grit 6444 - Brown pad, called Extra Duty Hand - (280-320) 240 grit 7446 - Dark Grey pad, called Blending Pad (180-220) 150 grit 7440 - Tan pad, called Heavy Duty Hand Pad - (120-150) 60(?) Have also found them useful in getting crusty dirt scrubbed off linoleum without damaging ...
Purchased these per an internet recommendation to buff off some light scratches on Hi-Mac acrylic countertop. Took quite a bit of buffing but worked well, scratches gone, did not rough up the countertop material. Have also found them useful in getting crusty dirt scrubbed off linoleum without damaging the linoleum perceptibly.

Really nice stuff--approved for solid surface countertops
I needed these for my new solid surface countertop. for the price--it's cheaper than buying "greenies" at the grocery store and I can use them for everything. They are a finer grain than the greenies. But that doesn't mean thy won't dull something polished--like a wood grain, so don't use them on your table top....like I did.

Not Quite the Ultra Fine I was Thinking of.
"Ultra Fine" is really not the words I would use for this pad. Were it sandpaper grit, I would call it 120. I bought this for use in rubbing varnishes. The hope was it would leave a final finish smoothness on it. The reality is it's probably better suited for between coat roughing up and then using something like a Klingspor Ultra Flex 220 or even 320 for the final go.

Better than expected
These pads are twice as thick and more than twice the size of the green Scotchbrites you buy in the store. Last longer. Like getting 40 pads in a box. I use them to polish my Corian countertop. They clean my aluminum rims, and pontoon boat before polishing. Great for sanding odd shaped stuff before painting. Rinse and reuse.

Great for prepping old clear coat for respray.

Best bulk price I can find
These are finishing pade for furniture mostly. They are great for in between coats of delecate chalk paint and top coats. I cut one piece into 4 pieces and they last forever.

Love them. War Mask, gloves, eye/ear protection as it sheds fibers.
Full sanding control using hands. Wear Mask as fibres spread. Little coarse.

Better product than I expected.
Always had problems using steel wool and water-based finishes. This product solved my problem. Sheets need to be cut in 4. Each lasts a long time. will never buy steel wool again.
