A narrower offering than other Kawaii books
My 7-yr-old daughter already has 'Kawaii: How To Draw Really Cute Stuff' and takes it with her everywhere. She loves it and has learnt a lot from it, so I was very excited to see this book. However, on a quick flick though it was clear that the drawings in this book are so specific that they would hold much less appeal for her. The things she liked about the original -- characters you can learn to customise to your own style etc, the variety of different scenarios - from giraffes to astronauts -- has been replaced by a very narrow offering. Obviously this is an inevitable result of it being the nth book in the series, but it means it's not for us, despite the cuteness of the style. It might be more suitable for adults who are looking for inspiration for cake decorations for very specific events etc, but less so for little kids. Perhaps you could use it to introduce world cultures/geography and that might be nice (in fact that is probably a very lovely idea and good use of the book for a more attentive parent (!)), but in our family, drawing is one of the few things that happens unsupervised, so thats an educational opportunity we'll save for another time! Still love the Kawaii style though!
