Bluebird Professional Heavy Gesso Primer for Acrylic Painting, 800 GM, Gesso Surface Prep Medium For Acrylic Paint and Oil Paint

Husband is happy. But didn't start the painting yet!

Used it on a wooden panel, which I intend to have hand painted by an artist. The base coat on the wooden panel was smooth and white. Absolutely recommend the product.

I’m an amateur crafter but this is hands down the best gesso for two reasons.It’s good value.It gives amazing coverage over my lumpy plaster and sculpture works. It has the consistency of delicious cream cheese. Also dries a beautiful bright white. Highly recommend it.

I cut myself opening this. Bad packaging. I consider myself very strong and I struggled to open this. I picture an old man or woman will be in trouble opening this.

I am a professional artist and use the highest quality gesso brands , but am always on the hunt for the latest and greatest, because I have never been 100 % satisfied with the exception of an ancient gesso my grandmother gave me that was no longer on the market that is actually very similar to this and this is why I am in love with it . Very Thick , very matte , and very white, and although , yes the container is not 100% full , doing the math of a container of an 8 oz container of golden with its price point …. Its not a point of contention for me . I knew it when I saw it somehow . My spidy senses , were off the charts , and Omgoodness, I sure hope I continue see more and more of this brand there is a much needed space for another brand to enter the market and stir some fun up with new products, different textures and whatever goodies they have available they want to share with the world that we are willing , I know I am to love and be open to rather then to immediately criticize.

I’ve tried both cheaper and more expensive gessos, and if you don’t want to spend the money on a brand like Golden or Liquitex, Bluebird is the one I would recommend. I like to try different gesso’s, but I always come back to Bluebird heavy gesso.The biggest difference is the coverage. Im often covering a previously painted board or canvas that I fouled up or layering super heavy, thick 500gsm handmade watercolor paper with decked edges onto a wooden board and while I have a gesso made for watercolors, I have no problem with any medium when I’ve coated the surface with Bluebird gesso. I can usually get solid, opaque coverage in one coat. Of course I add a second just to make sure, but it covered a Prussian blue painted wooden board with one coat today without a single bit of the dark blue showing through.With other gessos, including “heavy” gesso’s, I almost always end up using a minimum of three coats and once it took seven to cover a painted board. It has a wonderful consistency and leaves no visible brush strokes behind and always dries quicker than I expect it to. It’s a perfect white color and doesn’t flake or make it difficult to use adhesives on.What really makes it worth buying is that it isn’t priced like some premium miracle product. I’ve paid roughly the same for gessos that require several coats to accomplish what this does in one. At that point, the cheaper product isn’t really cheaper if you’re using three times as much of it and doing three times the work.Bluebird has become the only gesso I use. Excellent coverage, smooth application, and one of those rare art supplies where Ive finally put a halt to experimenting with other brands because I always end up returning them. Bluebird is my gesso go to.

I I really like this product to prepare my canvas for paintings, it is easy to use and the price is good, good quality. No smell

It is really nice to have a product to first cover the canvas with to stop the texture of the canvas showing through and also make the textures that you are wanting
