I found the lock easy to install and worked well for 18 months when it suddenly started jamming every couple of weeks requiring re-calibration. After submitting tickets and requested videos to support they said it's hardware failure and out of warranty. They suggested I upgrade to their new lock :(

This is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a secure, reliable and easy to use smart lock. For any renters out there, this is very renter friendly as it does not require you to alter or remove your existing door lock. We all have those moments where we wonder if we locked the door and with the 1 minute auto lock feature, I no longer have to worrry about forgetting to lock the door. Additionally, I have the option of going into the app, and it will tell me weather or not my front door is open and I can close or open it from the app. You have the option of setting up a pin, using the key card, or using the nfc tags which are compatible with both android and IOS . I also love that you can create temporary codes. For visitors. I used a temporary code when the plumber had to fix my kitchen sink while I was at work. My Grandma is visiting and I was able to create a pin for her that she’ll remember because she had a hard time remembering the pin I use. I love the sturdy design an the fact that it has an anti-theft system and a tamper-proof design. Setting up and using the lock is also incredibly simple and straightforward. I highly recommend getting this lock. It is a great investment.

SwitchBot is very receptive when you have problems and they really do try to work with you to solve them. However, while the concepts are good, both the hardware and software are lacking. It always worries me when people write reviews before they have owned the product for sufficient time to test for reliability. My lock was easy to install and worked fine for about a week. The only problem that was evident from the beginning was that Alexa integration was erratic. Alexa could always tell me whether the lock was locked or unlocked, but would often fail to unlock or lock the door, claiming that the device was not responding (which made no sense if Alexa knew the state of the lock). After using the lock successfully for a week, I tried to unlock my door from the outside, but it was jammed. Nothing fixed the problem. I tried removing the lock and uninstalling it, but the problem is in the design and the plastic construction. From the photo, you can see that the thumbturn adaptor (part that fits over the metal Schlage thumbturn)has popped off the Switchbot. The SwitchBot engineers wanted to make me a custom adaptor (and I have seen other reviews where they did this and if failed). While that might work for a while, I had no confidence in the long-term viability of the device. This is because the adaptor (and everything else) is plastic and clicks into a plastic disc on the lock with a small plastic clip. When you lock or unlock the door, the plastic discs slide and, provided the thumbturn adaptor fits over the thumbturn securely, the lock should work. That's a lot of moving plastic parts. In my case, with a Schlage lock and thumbturn whose shape is not symmetric, it took only a week for the adaptor to slip and jam the lock. While the SwitchBot lock is reasonably priced, you don't want to have to replace the lock within a year or two. I was able to find a better known brand for slightly less on special. It has a more solid construction and was easier to install than the SwitchBot, is less bulky, needs no hub for Alexa, and Alexa always works with it. I'll review it when I have used it for a few months. The SwitchBot does have some pluses. I can see its necessity for those people who are not allowed to modify their deadbolts in any way (my new replacement for the SwitchBot requires only that the inside part of the deadbolt be switched out). It comes with an NFT card an a couple of tags that you might find useful. The keypad is nice and will alert you if someone tries to remove it. SwitchBot support is very responsive and eager to please. Now for the not so good and the reason I am rating this 3-star. The lock is all plastic and I think people have been very quick to write 5-star reviews. The reason for this may be because SwitchBot reaches out to you as soon as you purchase the product. They are very receptive, but also incredibly persistent and really want you to write a review immediately. They sent me WhatsApp messages several times a day and late into the night and offered me free gifts. Eventually I had to block them. I understand that they want to break into a very competitive market. If you read many of the reviews, you will see problems with the locks, but people still give 5-star reviews because the company responds. However, these reviews are supposed to rate the product so that customers can decide if it is good and reliable; we are not just rating the company. When I see a 5-star review, I think that means that the product is top-notch (works perfectly, is reliable, and so on). The lock did not work out for me and became unusable within a week, so I am returning it. Also, while the company was eager to make me a custom adaptor, nobody addressed the problem with the Alexa integration.
