Excellent, easy to use tool.
An excellent product. It was very easy to use and did the job perfectly. I have no complaints at all about this product. Hopefully the insert holds up over time.

2006 f150 4.6 info
Worked great, but a few hints. Thread inserts had to be shortened. They were approx. 3/16-1/4 longer than the spark plugs. I cut them down and cleaned the inner and outer threads. I had to use a 1/2 drive impact to drill the pilot hole. An air racket didnโt have the torque to cut the hole. I went slow and used lots of grease on both the drill bit and the tap. I found threadlocker H-272 worked as well as the more expensive Loctite. Very thick and rated at 450 degrees F. Very pleased with the results. I also used anti sieze on the plug when installing the insert. Once installed I let everything sit 24 hours. Started and ran until the truck got up to an operating temp. Let cool and removed the plug and inspected. Then cleaned most of the anti seize off and reinstalled. VERY happy with the results.

These tools will definitely do the job.
Around 10 years ago I had a Ford V-10 Super Wagon van that blew a plug out just driving down the road. So, being a tool and die maker by trade and, doing automotive side jobs since I was 12, I went to work and designed a set of tools to put an insert in while in the vehicle. And I came up with something very similar to this kit. Basically my kit used a standard drill bit instead of the core reamer and I didn't use any stops for the tools. Back to present day, I now own another Ford truck with the 2 valve 5.4 and need to do a tune up. I have just moved to another state and can't find my homemade tools. I would not recommend changing plugs on these engines unless you have a kit like this on hand. Unless YOU have owned the vehicle since new and performed al the plug changes yourself being very careful, I have found that about half the time, you will end up finding some torn threads on at least one plug when you remove them. Most folks never knew about the problem and ended up over torquing the plugs. So if you can't do without your vehicle for the time this kit is delivered, get one ahead of time. And again, this kit will do the job just fine. The instructions are not real detailed but, if you are someone capable and willing to perform this type of repair, they are good enough to get you through the process. In my experience after doing probably 20+ inserts on these engines, don't be overly concerned about getting every little piece of the chips out. Since the chips are aluminum, if there are a few small chips you can't get out, they will get blown out or burned up as soon as you run the engine. I honestly have not ever heard of chips being a problem with this repair. Remember to use cutting oil while cutting the oversize hole and threads and use HIGH STRENGTH thread locking compound on the outside of the thread insert. Save yourself a ton of money/labor by not removing the head!

Idiot proof solution
This kit is super easy to use and is seriously idiot proof. I had a spark plug blow out on my 2003 Mustang GT and I tried to use a Helicoil insert but ended up threading the insert all the way through. These inserts have a brim to stop them at the correct depth. It took me about an hour to do 4 inserts.
