How many pieces are in this kit?

I don't remember, about 150, but pieces are not too small.

I bought a fokker dr-1 triplane and tried to put decals on and they fell all apark ?

Mine did too, but i basically glued them on and used paint and clearcoat to keep them good. Also remember that this aircraft had a rotary engine, not a radial, so it send oil flying everywhere, especially being flown in combat, so after you make it nice with the paint scheme you choose, Red Baron or Werner Voss, etc., you can use a black wash(paint mixed with a thinner) and cover the cracks in the decals and any other imperfections. Remember it was a combat aircraft, look at some of the original photos at real WWI Fokkers and see how the oil made the plane look dirty. Mine came out amazing, I did not use the propeller it came with, I bought a wooden propeller and sanded it down to the proper size, I also made more realistic looking guns with wood and metal tubing, use your imagination, so many possibilities. Is there canvas included to skin the plane?

No. There is a red tissue sort of material that shrinks after you put it on the plane and get it wet with water.

does this come with machine guns or do you have to buy them seperate?

It does come with machine guns however, the are part of the vacuum formed plastic and just okay. If there are any aftermarket I would suggest looking into upgrading. The reason that they are vacuumed formed is for weight. Remember that this model can be built to fly.
