It worked great. It really is just plug and play, with the addition of changing the speaker output on your computer to this device. No more scratchy/hissy sounding 3.5mm jack to deal with anymore. I hooked this up to my new MSI Katana Gaming Laptop usb port (purchased here on Amazon), that did not come with an optical plug connection, and then to a Logitech Z625 THX Computer Speaker system optical plug connection located in the base speaker (Also purchased on Amazon). I Matched this device with the Amazonbasics Optical Cord plug. I'd call that a win.

I run SPDIF for my desktop computer hooked up to my home theater system. I bought a motherboard that didn't have SPDIF, and I bought this. Works excellent. Exactly what I was looking for. In fact, I feel better having it separate.

Super easy to connect my soundbar to my pc. Now I don't need to rely on the dodgey bluetooth connection. Important to note that this only works from pc to soundbar. I can leave my sound bar turned out to keep the audio connection constant. No noticeable audio lag at all.

I'm using this item on a Mac to drive the optical-in port on a bluetooth transmitter, which then broadcasts to outdoor speakers. Works great. Plug-and-play too: the Mac immediately recognized it as an audio device.
