Folk Art Patterns to Colour Paperback – 1 Jan. 2017

I'm really disappointed with this book. The only good things about this book are a) the lovely cover, and b) the paper quality is OK (but the pages are double-sided, which cancels that out!).On the bad side, The book is very thin - very few pages, and most pages have text on the page as well as the colouring design. There are a handful of pages which don't have text, but some of those designs are weirdly tiny (3 of them are squashed onto one page). The nice design on the cover isn't even in the book at all! Really disappointing, I feel like I've wasted my money.

Folk Art Patterns to Colour is an A4 sized paper-backed book which is both glue and stitch bound. It has a black cover with a colourful bird Folk art design embellished with some Red foiling on the flowers. The paper is a medium weight, smooth and takes pencils well, although a bit of blending may help as the grain shows a little due to the paper having some tooth, however you can layer as much as you like. The pages are double-sided so alcohol markers are out but water based markers and pens are fine and the paper is thick enough so none should show through.There are a variety of designs, some with white and others with black backgrounds. The book is aimed at children and as such the designs are quite simple although they are detailed and pretty enough to appeal to adults too. It also tells you a simple history of folk art and has a description of many of the designs. There are Hungarian dancers,Polish Papercuts, Bulgarian Costumes, Swedish Painting, Russian Toys, North American drawings, Mexican festival art, Alpine furniture, and other Folk Art patterns. It is a pretty little book: I say little as it is only 32 pages (counting both sides) long, but each page is delightful and if you would like to complete at least one colouring book in your collection and the others just feel like a mammoth task, this would be a good one.I was kindly sent a copy.
