Thinking about this for my son who sits in the end of his bed playing video games to support his back. Will this work for this use?

Yes. I bought it to sit in the pool to support my back and ended up using it for sitting in bleachers at baseball games. Lifesaver.

what are the dimensions and how thick is it?

Product Dimensions: 29.5 x 21 x 2 inches ; 4.6 pounds

Has anyone used this in a kayak?

It's very large, ended up returning mine because it would take up so much bleacher space.

I need some back support when I play the piano. Would this chair work for me? I'm 5 ft 6 inches tall.

I'm assuming you have to sit upright for playing the piano. I think yes it will still provide some support. I use it for outdoors when I set on the floor or on the ground and I kind of lay back on it. I hope this helps
