Product Description
Three-time Emmy Award-winner Don Adams and Barbara Feldon reprise their roles as Maxwell Smart and Agent 99, but this time they have a little help from their son and newly-minted spy, Zach (Andy Dick), and his brilliant, sexy partner Agent 66 (Elaine Hendrix). Max is now the Chief of Control and 99 is now a Congresswoman in charge of Control's budget. Together, they must struggle to keep archrival KAOS from gaining world domination.
From .co.uk
This particular Get Smart is the Fox television network's 1995 revival of the hit show that debuted 30 years earlier. A softer, less satirical and less worldly version of the original show that was created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the new Get Smart nevertheless brings Don Adams back to the role of Maxwell Smart, agent 86 for counter-intelligence agency Control. Married to former agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), now a U.S. Congresswoman, Max is the new Chief of Control, bungling through his desk job yet somehow still managing to stymie the evil forces of Kaos. In a way, Get Smart isn't really Adams' or Feldon's show anymore. The two are seen frequently enough, but much of the comic action now belongs to Andy Dick as the Smarts' son Zach, who graduates to full agent in the series' premiere episode. A bumbler with an inflated sense of his expertise, Zach is very much Max's son. Continuing the parallel between generations, Zach is also paired with an attractive and more professional agent, 66 (Elaine Hendrix), who gradually warms to him over several episodes. Good thing, because that's all there is: after seven programs, Get Smart came to an end, and that's all this DVD has to offer. Even if it isn't brilliant, the family-friendly show has a lot of funny moments, particularly when Dick gets to engage his talent for physical comedy. His interactions with Hendrix occasionally border on classic screwball comedy, a nice balance with the obvious warmth between Adams and Feldon. --Tom Keogh

... original series but an essential part of any Get Smart fans collection
Certainly not as strong as the original series but an essential part of any Get Smart fans collection. Don Adams and Barbara Feldon deliver as though they've never been away, only marred (as often the case) with some dubious cast younger actors alongside. Siegfried's return is probably the best episode.

Get Smart and Son
This is Get Smart from the 1990's and so naturally has differences to the original show. However I think it's great fun and totally mad. The original Agent Smart and 99 still star, but now their son's an agent also and he's partnered with the sexy agent 66. The show's fast moving and I found it to be laugh out loud in places. If you enjoy shows like Police Squad or Sledge Hammer then you'll like Get Smart. Sadly the complete 90's series is only 7 episodes.

MISS IT BY THAT MUCH !
This is absolutely dire. The complete series, they say! It only has 7 episodes and it's hardly surprising. I don't know why they bothered to make them.Max Smart is now Chief of CONTROL and is married to Agent 99 who is now a Congresswoman in charge of CONTROL's budget. Unfortunately they have a son called Zach ( played by Andy Dick and aptly named in my opinion ). This character is a real nerd and it is he for the most part whom we are obliged to watch along with Agent 66 ( played by Elaine Hendrix, who is sexy if nothing else ). Don Adams and Barbara Feldon are in it, but not a great deal. The writing is awful and the humour backfires cosiderably. This is not a patch on the original series and merely proves that you cannot bring a successful TV series from the 1960s and transfer it to the 1990s. Neither the actors ( aside from D.A. and B.F. ) nor the writers are of anywhere near the same calibre. Forget it.

Not the original series
Although the product is in excellent shape (purchased used on Amazon), we missed the ball on this on when we thought we were purchasing the whole ORIGINAL series of the original Maxwell Smart. This is NOT the original series, this is old Max and Old 99 in what looks to be a re-make of the original series.... sorry Max / 99, you guys look good today but the re-make doesn't do it for me. The wording on the package was miss leading for us... should have done some research on this one.

With Get Smart it's never ''Hit or Miss'' - It's a hit every time and every Season. Even this First Season the Producers hooked on a winning formula and stuck to it for our benefit. The DVD came in excellent condition.

I'm highly recommending Get Smart and........loving it!
I hadn't seen "Get Smart" since the 1960s but I must say it hasn't lost any of its' humour or inventiveness.Sprung from the fertile minds of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry this award winning series still packs a humourous punch. The series quickly put into the /60s pop culture dictionary four main catch-phrases:"Would you believe?","Sorry about that Chief","Missed it by that much(with the accompanying index finger over the thumb) and ".....and loving it".Fact is I find myself to this day periodically saying one of these phrases.I'm not sure what that says about me OR the show(:-)) but that is the impact it had,and it still does. The show is a huge send up of the then popular spy genre/Cold War theme then front and center, courtesy of Sean Connery and the Bond pictures. It involves the exploits of one Maxwell Smart,Agent 86,played absolutely brilliantly by Don Adams and his fellow agent,Agent 99,done by Barbara Feldon.Somehow Max in the end manages to solve the cases he is assigned to but more often than not,it is usually in spite of himself. In the process he often sends his beloved chief, played by Edward Platt, into fits of apoplexy,or in the very least supplies him with numerous and recurring headaches! It is not very hard also to spot alot of Stan Laurel-like facial expressions and reactions in Adam's character, along with many similar gags used throughout the series;which helps explains why the material over all has stood the test of time. And not too surprising to see Laurel and Hardys' influence there as they were hugely popular on TV at that time. The series won an Emmy Award in its' very first year with the two part ep "The Ship of Spies";a take off on the 15th Century book/allegorical story "A Ship of Fools".For those that think this show is a continuous running series of gags and other comedy routines, will be shocked to realize that there are many serious or semi-serious moments that occur throughout. However we know,as the creators remind us subtly and not so subtly, that it is all done tongue in cheek so there is no mistaking what you are watching. One very funny and recurring set of gags to watch out for throughout this series is Max's dealings with the various devices and paraphernalia he is given to thwart his evil CHAOS opponents with and the many items he talks into which are subbing as phones. The humour is very visual,it can be subtle, but it's always hilarious. These shows have all been digitally remastered and the transfers are well done. Each ep has an introductory blurb spoken by actress Barbara Feldon(Agent 99) herself(with the option of listening or going right to the ep);like Robert Conrad in the first season of "The Wild,Wild West".However I hope, unlike the "Wild,Wild West",that Ms. Feldon will continue her spoken intros throughout the series to come.It was so nice to hear her voice. The original b&w 1/2 hour pilot is also included here;with the rest of the eps all in colour. This is another first for me as I had never seen any of these shows in colour until I viewed them in this set.And the contrast and the colour itself are like they were shot just yesterday.Wonderful.For anyone of you who have read some of my reviews you will have noticed that since the beginning I have stressed and made special mention of any show that pertains to being of a"family" nature;that is those that are suitable for family viewing,a rare commodity these days.Well lo and behold for the first time anywhere that I have seen, the back jacket blurb to this set mentions this show as one perfect for "families".Are the companies finally catching up? I fervently hope so.I also hope it continues to be a trend. As there are no shows anymore that an entire family can sit down and watch together without fear of a sexual reference or bad language,a show like "Get Smart" is the perfect tonic for our times.Universal humour that the whole family can watch, laugh and enjoy TOGETHER.What a concept!
