The Prince and the Dressmaker

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the sheer perfection of this beautiful little book?I'm not much of a graphic novel reader because, paradoxically, I find little text broken up by lots of graphics very difficult to follow, so a story has to be exceptional for me to get through it in graphic novel form. I inevitably put them down, often for weeks at a time, if I then finish at all. I read this in just over an hour - I literally couldn't put it down. It's a really sweet, quietly funny and poignant story about identity, being true to yourself, acceptance and friendship. It absolutely hit all the important points about cross-dressing and the denoument had me laughing out loud in sheer joy and saying awww at the same time. I am the least sentimental person imaginable, so anything that put a chink in my cold armoured heart is well worth paying attention to 😉 There was no real fantasy in terms of magic or fabulous beasts but it had a very fairy tale feel whilst still being down to earth. Utterly brilliant. Highly recommend

Gorgeously drawn heartwarming story about real friendship and doing what you love. I loved it and my 9-year old said it was one of the best stories he's ever read. Bully kids in his class have decided that everyone has to be into football and he's not so he really identified with this and the human need to be accepted by those around you.

What a beautiful book. The illustrations are lovely, and the story has even more depth and character than I expected. I was very pleased with this purchase.

For some things, representation is very hard to find, and this is the first book I've come across with a genderfluid protagonist, which is an absolutely wonderful thing to see. The art style is adorable and the story is incredibly emotional. This is without doubt one of the finest graphic novels I have ever read.

This was simply adorable! A perfect story about acceptance and friendship for children and adults alike with beautiful soft art. It was just the sweet fluff I needed!
