Engaging, bite-sized information: perfect for visual learners
I've generally interested in nutrition and have had various books on the subject, but thought it'd be nice to get a simpler book with a more visual approach to help me memorise facts and also generally learn more about what we're putting into our bodies. I was super impressed upon receiving this. First things first, I absolutely love the graphics. The book is illustrated in such a simple way that easily conveys information and breaks it up into bitesize pieces. At no point does any information feel overwhelming or boring. They've done it in a clever way where learning about minerals and vitamins is interesting and it brings back a lot of knowledge I should have retained from school but have forgotten pretty much all of! I genuinely can say some of the information I've picked up in this book has helped me eat a bit healthier and encouraged my family and I to add more things into our diets. I've even found myself showing bits to my 3 year old and explaining about carrots helping you see in the dark, and exclaiming random facts to my partner about what foods are high in what. The structure is well thought through and it takes you through various concepts to do with food, how we break it down and turn it into energy, what it's made of and various isolated areas like different diets. I can wholeheartedly recommend this book and have already started going through others in the range as I just love how they portray the information. It completely appeals to my visual brain and helps me memorise the facts and data inside. Love it.

Easy Reading
Simply Nutrition (DK Simply) This is a hard backed book with a total of 160 pages. This book is very thorough and detailed in all types of food nutrition to hydrating drinks and which part of the body needs which nutrients to function and where to get them from. There's various topics and sections in the book with easy to read and understand in a clear informative way for the role of fat in your diet or the difference between simple and complex carbs or the role vitamins play in our diets. Whether you're a school aged child or an adult who's forgotten, this book is exactly as described in it's title 'Simple Nutrition' There is bite sized bullet points to grab your attention and also illustrations and images of what counts as a portion size and how to gage a measurement size using your hand as reference, like the tip of your thumb is a portion of butter. One thing that was mentioned in the book which made me think was the eat well plate and the portion ratio of foods, I have read so many articles and reports that this has been debunked now and it is not a healthy diet to follow like it was in the 60s. Another thing that confused me was the section of foods you should limit and this mentioned coconut oil, really?

Huge amount of information!
I got this book to better educate myself on what I was putting into my body and the effects of that. The book is able to take such an indepth subject and break it down to information that made sense. It goes into depth on all the major food groups, telling you what it is, what its role in your nutrition is. The way in which it explains it, really worked for me to make minor changes to my diet to get the results I wanted. Understanding was the first step to know what was going on, then making the changes was made easy with this books help! The book overall, is really well written. It has fast and slow sections, in-depth and surface level which give a really nice flow to the writing to the point that it becomes very easy to ready and allowing the information to go in. It isn't just a wall of information like other books. This book books diagrams and illustrations are easy to read and understand. Overall, whether you are trying to make changes to your heal or you are giving this to someone who has started learning about biology at school. All of the information is easy to read and understand! I can highly recommend! 5/5!

Too basic, based, patronising.
Very basic and biased without fact based information. I mean if you say that large doses of vitamin D can be harmful you should also include the source of your claim. The book promotes the use of artificial food to save the environment. It seems that the new healthy is artificial, this is what is promoted in this book. When I reached the page where the book talks about the predictions of the UN about the overpopulation and how we have to increase food production and use insect protein and other laboratory synthesized food, this is when I closed the book and I returned it. It seems that for DK books the problem is the cows emitting gas

OK, I am a sucker for DK books -- I know them for non-fiction works for kids with great pictures and honing to the essence of a subject simply, authoritatively, and with the skill of masters. They also try to make it as fun and interesting as they can. I will also freely admit to reading this type of book for my own use. They are readable and fill in gaps in what I know. This book is a perfect example. I have skimmed it and will read it in full. So far, it covers what foods are good for us, why they are good and the very basics of the digestive system. It's a new book -- well done DK
