Perfect for modifying into older child harness backpack
I have an autistic runner who is 6 1/2. He has run into traffic in the past few months, and will run away if given the chance. I had searched for backpack leashes (again) because I’m a single mom of 4 young kids and I needed to protect my son and my own sanity. I hate having to have him on a leash but it’s the safest option for all of us. I decided to modify these and sew them by hand onto his existing school backpack. I had to trim them down and melt the edges but Ive had experience doing all kinds of sewing in the past. I bought a 4 ft black dog leash and attached it to the top loop of the backpack and now walking out of our apartment isn’t as hard as it was for me before. Walking to school is calmer and easier as well. I wanted to share these things in case another parent or caregiver stumbles across it and it helps give them ideas or hope as well. The children’s backpack leashes aren’t ideal for older kids. I wish they made regular backpack ones for school. But now I have one.

Doesn't come stitched, which it needs to be to work
Item includes everything needed, but the Nylon webbing needs to be stitched into a secure loop around the two buckle pieces, as in step 1 of the instructional image. Otherwise it slips out. It does not come stitched. You can super glue the webbing into a double fold or sew the loop, but not worth the DIY time.

Not easy to attach.
I wish there were a easier way to attach it to the straps, you have to undo the buckle thing and now I can't get it secure, it keeps pulling apart .

The best upgrade to my backpack
I own a Douchebag of 30L and my version didn't have the adjustable chest strap, and I bought this and they work so well, and the look really aesthetic!love them, and great quality!

Great for leaf blower
I installed this chest strap on my backpack leaf blower because it did not have one. The chest strap was easy to install and there is flexibility to adjust the chest strap to match the width of the backpack shoulder straps. The clip unlocks easily with your fingers. After installation on my leaf blower, the shoulder straps stopped falling off. This is a great addition to any backpack or leaf blower that does not have a chest buckle.

Basically worthless
Straps don't stay tight.

Works OK
This chest strap works okay but not great. If your backpack straps aren't an even width across their whole length the chest strap will slide down to the bottom of the straps when not in use. There is no clip to secure it into position. You just loop one end of the chest strap around your backpack strap and tighten it as best as you can. If you overtighten, then your backpack straps will be deformed and uncomfortable to wear, but if it is not tight enough, the chest strap will slip to the bottom of the backpack straps when not in use. When in use and under tension it does stay in place fine. The chest strap material is solid and the clip is decent quality. With regard to durability, I have no complaints. It is just the fit and the ability to secure the straps that is a problem.I would say that this design will get you by if you really need a chest strap, but it is not nearly as convenient or effective as a built-in chest strap specifically designed for your pack.
