Are these entirely wood, how is the quality of the magnets?

These cars are mostly made of wood, except for the plastic wheels for maximum durability. The front and back of trains are equipped with strong magnets, allowing them to be connected to endless combinations.

Want to buy this for my grandson, are these wheels compatible with the train track from Melissa and Doug?

Yes, they fit on all popular brand tracks, including Melissa and Doug, Thomas, Brio, chuggington, and more. And the perfect size of the cars will fit your grandon's little hands :)
