I just want to hang a unwired pendant from this hook. It has a chain and a cord to plug into wall. Can I mount this directly to ceiling?

Hello DIYer. The answer depends on the weight of the item. I always refer people to find the actual stud of the ceiling to ensure maximum weights capacity. If NO stud found, then I would suggest using wall anchors with screws. You don’t want to hang on ceiling and having fall later because the weight of the item is too much.

How does this attach to the ceiling? I only want to place it on the ceiling to hide a hook. Not to be wired into my electrical.

can this be used with hard wired pendent fixture that operates off a wall switch?

I wouldn't. There's no place for the hard wire to pass through. The bottom comes off so you can attach it to the ceiling but then you screw the part with the hook on it back on.

Mounts on solid surface, won't fit on an electrical box without a separate adapter

None of the product shots are realistic (they're obvious Shops, but then again no comparable products have real photos either). The bracket it ships with doesn't fit in a standard electrical box. It's designed to be screwed into the ceiling. You should be able to buy a plate so it works with an electrical box. The quality seems barely acceptable. The steel was thinner than I expected.

Fantastic hook!

I love thee - I bought a black and a white at the same time and I love them. Easy to install, decent strength, and they look great! I painted the white one gold to match the room.
