Being from Sweden, IceBugs knows more than they might want to admit about winter. Not only the postcard pretty, snowy landscape type, but anything from -25C, over slush to the modern city version of +5C with the rain blowing hard into your face and the streets flooding. The real icebugs survive by creating an anti-freeze protein in their bodily fluids. We humans can't resort to that. But warn, dry feet and outstanding traction is a good way of staying mobile and increasing the chances of making it through, even keeping the spirits up.

Great shoes for running in the winter
great shoes for running on the streets/sidewalk in the snowy midwest. They are very comfortable, similar in quality to other namebrand running shoes and the material on the outside is partly waterproof so I haven't had any problems with them getting very wet/uncomfortable during the run. They are loud, but I'm ok with that as I know it's the grips working. Would highly recommend for those who plan on running in the winter.

Great ice & snow running shoe!
Bought this running shoe for my wife and I got another model from Icebug (water proof). They are both excellent running shoe for ice and snow, but a little noisy on clear roads. And the Pytho2 has a firm shell (outer) that takes a little while to break in before going for long runs (10 plus). The weight for a studded shoe is impressive (light). Happy running:) I waited until Amazon had a 20% off clothing and got a great price!

Great until 6 studs fell out:(
I really like these shoes. They provide excellent traction for running on ice and packed snow. Unfortunately, 6 studs have fallen out of the left shoe. The traction has been greatly comprimised. I can no longer use them.

Does the job
I live on the coast of Maine so for at least 5 months out of the year running outdoors can be hazardous due to icy road conditions. I'll take running outside over the treadmill any day so in order to be able to do so I need a shoe that is comfortable, somewhat waterproof and has traction for ice but is also ok on wet, paved roads, seeing as most times I am dealing with a combination of ice, slush, gravel and wet pavement conditions all in one run.Last year I wore my Stabilicers that slip over my boots. Tho the Stabilicers are great on ice and they allow me to walk with ease they were not comfortable at all to run on - I could feel almost every ice cleat with every step I ran. I found that because of the height of the cleats it threw my gait off and I rolled on my feet so after using them on a couple of runs I had to stop using them and I wear them for walking only.I resumed my research this winter and after reading a number of reviews for the Icebugs, and a positive review from one of my running partners I searched and searched on-line to find a pair. One review was exceptionally favorable for the Womens Pytho2, but they're quite costly so I was excited when I found a pair for nearly $50 off the original price on Amazon.com.I have only had the opportunity to run in them a couple of times so far so my review is basically for a pair without much use yet. By the end of this winter, my initial review may change after using them, for what looks like will be, a whole lot.The shoe itself, compared to my every day running shoe, is way more stiff, not near as comfortable overall, and are considerably heavier. I feel like I am clomping along in trail shoes - I won't be improving my time at all in these (however, after using these for a few months I may find my time is faster when I go back to wearing my lighter running shoes!). And they're loud on pavement. People definitely hear me coming. But I am well aware that the heaviness and loudness comes from the very reason I picked these shoes - the cleats so I can run on ice.The only purpose of these shoes for me is to allow me to run on icy roads and stay upright, rather than sprawled on the ground. These shoes did that, without feeling like the cleats were being pushed up into my feet. I felt more secure on the road, my gait stayed relatively the same as normal and I wasn't rolling on my feet. My socks stayed dryer because they are more waterproof than my usual shoes so I don't have to constantly be dodging puddles. Indeed I should be able to run outside all winter with these shoes, and hopefully for a few winters for the lower mileage I'll be putting on them compared to my better-weather running shoes.Due to the stiffness and heaviness of the shoes I would not choose these shoes for my everyday pair (I am hoping they'll soften up with more wear) and this is why I gave them only 4 stars, not 5. They seem to be well-made, they're rugged, the cleats aren't too uncomfortable and so far they're all still in place, the traction is good and my feet are dry. I always wear an 8.5M in regular running shoes; I ordered an 8.5M in these and the size seems to be fine.I suspect these shoes are worthy of 5 stars ... eventually. I think they just need more break-in time to get there. But my Brooks Ghost 5 and Asics Gel Nimbus running shoes were worthy of 5 stars right out of the box, and that is what I am comparing these to - running shoes that are comfortable from the start line.

Using in sand
No break in time needed. I have a D width, so ordered these up a half size. Fantastic.
