This shaggy-dog fable barely drew fleas when it arrived in the winter of 1986. Now critics refer to it as a winning, offbeat classic. What took 'em so long? Probably the fact that director Roger Spottiswoode ( Tomorrow Never Dies ) and screenwriter Ron Shelton ( Bull Durham ) were chasing something very elusive: a cockeyed, scatological look at delayed glory. Robin Williams plays Jack Dundee, a meek bank VP in Taft, California, who daily relives the humiliation of a bobbled pass in the game against Bakersfield. Not content to live out his days as "Butterfingers" Dundee, Jack hits on a plan to "rewrite history" by restaging the Big Game. Taft's now-over-the-hill quarterback, Reno Hightower (Kurt Russell), reluctantly goes along with the harebrained scheme to redeem his buddy. The guys' wives (Holly Palance and Pamela Reed) shake their heads and play along. At once zany, sweet, and nostalgic, this small-town chronicle strives for, and achieves, folk-legend status. "Casey at the Bat" in shoulder pads, anyone? --Glenn Lovell A small-town loser determines to have one more shot at the big time by winning a football game. For the sports nuts out there....
I'm not really much of a football fan, but this movie is hilarious!! Nice to see Robin Williams actually getting physical when he's running. Lots of great 80s actors in this one, but my eagle eyes spotted Robin Lively hanging out with the high schoolers. Whether or not you're a sports nut, this one's got class....

Good acting, slow plot, gratuitous language
Being a fan of Kurt Russell and Robin Williams, I was excited to see this. The premise sounded like a lot of fun, and it is generally well reviewed. But when I watched it with a group of people, all of us were extremely disappointed. It's an example of a good idea and fantastic acting that lacks solid writing to turn it into a good movie. The plot moved slowly and several scenes dragged or were unnecessary. The set-up took 1/2-3/4 of the movie and could easily have been squeezed into the first 20 minutes. And while the comedic acting was (of course) good, it was hampered down by a gratuitous amount of language. It seemed like every third or fourth sentence had some level of swearing or sexual reference in it. It's not a terrible movie by any means, and there are certainly entertaining aspects to it, but I didn't find it to be something I would watch again or particularly recommend to anyone.

one of my top 3 favourite films all cathegories!
Not much to say... Very cheap. Also shipping is so cheap it's almost embarrasing to shop here... But top quality and fast shipping. I am, as always, a returning customer. And by the way, this is one of my absolute favourite films ever made.
