I'm just starting in woodworking. I started by building an end grain cutting board in a friends workshop with his help, and have been slowly getting into the hobby. The first tool I was looking to get was a Band Saw since it most matched what I wanted to do. My problem was, I had no clue what to look for, how to use one, what to do. This book was pretty helpful for me in that regard. It starts at the very basics of the Band Saw. Reading through the book I got an idea of what parts consists of the saw, their names, their functions, what type of bandsaw I should look for for the type of work I wanted to, what type of blades I should get, how to use the blades, and a lot more. The book helped me very much with the basic operation and function of the band saw, and when I finally got one, I was a pretty comfortable with it considering it was my first time really using one. Reading through the actual manual for the bandsaw much of the information felt very familiar. This book though went into a lot of detail and provided helpful tools and tips whereas the manual didn't. It certainly was a helpful supplement to the provided documentation. The book is easy to read, it is detailed but not overly technical. There are a lot of helpful illustrations and drawings to help illustrate the point the book is making. The book will cover up to how to do some basic cuts (straight curved) follow patterns, and some light project type work. But this is not a book that gives you 15 projects to start off. The book gets you off the ground with Band Saw's, and if you need a guide cause you don't know all that much - this book is an excellent tool.

I have a growing woodshop and recently added a bandsaw to the shop and was looking for a book to cover the basics in terms of setup and some tips. The New Complete Guide to the Band Saw truly lives up to its name. The book not only covered the basics of how a bandsaw works, but offers a wealth of information on the many ways a bandsaw can be used. From jigs to resawing and the difference between blades—it covers everything. The book is well written, and the book offers a balance of professional photographs along with text covering a wide range of topics starting with making sure the bandsaw is set up properly. Whether you are a beginning, intermediate or advanced woodworker, this book will give you insight and ideas for your own woodworking.

I just bought my first band saw, though I have been a woodworker for a long time now. This is an excellent book. It seems to cover everything you need to know about band saw operation, tuning, blade choice and more. The chapter on setup and tuning seems to be particularly thorough. As another reviewer stated, the chapter on jigs is a little thin, but helpful and useful, too. I keep most of my woodworking books on a shelf in my bedroom, but this one is going to live in the shop as I'll be referring to it frequently as I learn the ins and outs of band saw use. I'm not so easily impressed by woodworking books, but this one is definitely a keeper.

Nothing is complete but it has a lot of good information. Saw you tube vidio on how to setup a band saw which is more helpful than the book for setup. The book is just ok for setup.

You can gather more information then you can process.

Duginske certainly knows what he’s talking about! His organization and writing skills, complemented by the superb, clear photos and explicit, gorgeously drawn and accurate illustrations make for a very special text! As a novice band saw user, I’m amazed at how thoroughly he’s covered the subject, from the basics to the purchase of the machine- new or used- to the metallurgy behind purchasing blades. AND a look at the history behind the craft! Just an excellent text that is well up to date, too.

I have had some problems with my new band saw and needed instructions onhow to fix my problems. It gives detailed information not only operation but also fixing problems. I recommend this book to anyone beginning in woodworking because it gives a large amount of information. The book is written so anyone would understand it. The book came on time from the seller and was in excellent condition and the price was good. Thanks

This book was written by someone with obviously strong and long experience, and he covers EVERY aspect of bandsaws, including design, features, brands, examining condition, setup, maintenance, blades, straight cuts, curved cuts, jigs, fixtures - you name it - it's all there, and WELL explained. One of the best books I have ever purchased.
