IF YOUR GEMSTONES ARE METAL THEN I WOULD THINK SO NOT ALUMINUM EITHER. WHAT EVER A MAGNET PICKS UP THIS TOOL WILL PICKUP, WITHIN A CERTAIN WEIGHT...WOULDN'T TRY TO LIFE A CAR WITH IT. :)
