Q: Is there a way to set the time to a.m or p.m.? Mom said the alarm did not go off the morning after she set it, but did go off that night instead.

There is no am or pm setting. If you set the alarm for 8:30 - it will go off at 8:30 am and 8:30 pm, unless you shut it off.

Q: Is this clock refurbished ?

Mine was new and works perfectly. This is my second purchase of this clock because I like it so much.
