I want to use the long configuration (96"), but I want the basket and hook wall on opposite sides of what's pictured. Is this possible?

No, the ends are prefabed and cannot be switched however the desk is absolutely awesome and I highly recommend it!!! Great quality, reasonable price!!

Can you remove the monitor shelf?

Yes you can, but it leaves holes in the desk. You could order stickers to cover or I use a extra large desk mat. The holes are tiny and in the back, so they dont really cause issues.

What is height of desktop from floor? What is height and depth of monitor shelf?

from floor to desktop is 29 inches. Monitor shelf if 7 inches deep and 6 inches from the desktop.

can you switch which side you put the keyboard tray on?

As designed, no. The L-shape is not swappable. That said, you can drill a few holes in the desk and supporting rails to mirror image the L, with the caveat that the inlad power strip ends up on the end.
