1 X Thai Sticky Rice Steamer Set

This steamer comes directly from Thailand and costs the seller (a Mom, Pop, and Daughter) approximately $7.50 to ship. Yes, it can take up to a month to receive and you should be warned that the shipping is not trackable. This is a replacement cooker for me. The one I had years ago was a bit larger, but, I have found the size of this cooker is perfect for a small family and still makes a good sized ball of rice. The cooker came with a sheet of simple instructions; easy enough for the beginner to understand. The rice basket is very well made. The bamboo strands are wide and the weaving is done nicely. I really appreciate the heavy woven band around the edge of the basket. This almost makes for handles, and is very convenient when "rolling" the steamed rice around. The vessel stands seven and one quarter inches. The rim of the vessel is 8 inches wide. The basket stands 8 inches tall and is about 12 inches at its widest. I use a lid when steaming my rice, and I find an 8 inch medium saucepan lid works perfectly. Storing a rice cooker like this can be a challenge... yet I have found no problem placing this cooker in my cabinet.

I love the authentic flavor, that the natural basket lends to the rice, that is what makes the flavor superior, to that of a metal pot. I would prefer to give this 20 STARS! It took over a month to get it. It has 3 dents in the bottom so when the water is boiling it rocks on the stove. There was no lid with it and you need a lid when cooking the rice. There was no cooking instructions.

I am just so delighted and quite surprised to receive this shipment right on time all the way from Thailand ..the items are well packaged and the box is clean inside and out .. it looked like there were cares given during packaging... the set looks exactly like the picture ...it is my first time using the set...since 30 years living in the U.S.The smell of bamboo reminds me of home in S.E. Asia.. I saved the stamp on the box for souvenir.... Thank you TastePadThai for delivering as promised ... I will order from you guys again !!!!

I don't know what I expected, but this is a whole lot bigger than I envisioned. I think you could prepare a quart of rice in it easily, where I was planning on making 1-2 servings at a time. No problem except for storage, I guess! The set is well made, light, attractive. Be prepared to wait a few weeks for it to be derived from Thailand. I'm looking forward to many happy Mango Sticky Rice occasions now!

The pot and steamer came in perfect condition and look exactly like what you see in the photo with instuctions. I also got some tips from friends who live in Thailand. Soak sticky rice for at least 6 hours, put water in the pot about halfway, cover the rice ( I use glass cover). Use high then medium heat for 20 minutes then flip the rice, continue cooking for another 10 minutes. It was my first time making sticky rice. It works great and easy to clean and store. It took a month to get the product, but it was worth waiting for.

My wife wanted a sticky rice steamer from Thailand, so I chose this seller because of its location in Chiang Mai, and based upon the good price offered. We received the steamer set in very good condition in about two weeks. My wife soaked the basket in water for almost 24 hours prior to using it, which totally got rid of the strong basket bamboo smell. She also soaks the rice for about 8 hours prior to cooking it using natural cheese cloth in the basket. I would recommend doing online research for sticky rice cooking instructions to avoid disappointment. By the way, the steamer delivered to us was the Car Brand and not the Diamond Brand as depicted, but that probably does not matter. It is really nice and fun to have fresh and perfectly cooked sticky rice at home to complement to your favorite Asian dishes.

For those who like sticky rice, there is only one original way to make it and that is with this pot. The sellers were kind enough to include instructions on how to cook sticky rice even though there are dozens of recipes online. The wicker and pot clean easily. It takes a while to get this as it is shipped from Thailand where a family makes these kits. The price is very good and shipping is free. Anything good is worth waiting for. Thai language for sticky rice is khao niao (cow nee-ow).
