OX Pro Aluminium Rafter Square Metric 300mm

After returning a pair of squares from another manufacturer simply for being anything but square, I took a chance on this one. I expected it to be another disappointment but I am very pleased to say that it is indeed square. The 45's are spot on too so save yourself the money and the hassle by leaving the other makes on the shelf and just buy one of these instead. They are very nicely made, the aluminium is thick, they feel good in the hand and they are clearly a quality item. The laser etched markings while very easy to read are barely cut into the surface at all and basically look like they were merely printed on. They are etched though as a fingernail will attest, but only very slightly so. That's really the only niggle I have and I will in fact also now buy the smaller one as well. I'm very pleased as there are so many of these things offered for sale which simply are not accurately made at all and if a square is not actually square, what use then is it? It's nice to be able to have a little faith in your tools and these certainly do not disappoint. Update: I subsequently bought the smaller model and sad to say it was not square at all nor was the triangular body of it flat. I returned it for replacement and while this one was at least flat, it was even more off square. I may just have been lucky with the 300mm model or else those ones are made elsewhere.

A large and well made rafters square is well worth the money that I paid for it. It is my go two item in my work shop and I would buy another one without hesitation and I also would recommend it to anybody that does any type of wood work.

Best addition to the toolbox in ages!

Needed a rafter square to ensure a cold frame base in the garden was a true rectangle. Had managed never to invest in one before. This Ox brand (I like the professional branding, someone's trying) was 4-5 quid more than a couple of others but looks worth the premium. Sturdy, straight with true 90° angles. The lines are slightly embossed, as stated. Not so the characters (but not stated to be) but they look OK. Time will tell.
