Images in the Margins (Medieval Imagination)

Great for Art History, Illumination Inspiration, and More
Very cute illustrations drawn - pun intended - from the margins of medieval manuscripts. Could also be titled When Scribes Got Bored. And the text is great reading. Who knew otherwise serious religious texts could be so fun?

So Entertaining
I can't imagine how long it would take to create an illuminated manuscript. That said, this little book shows how scribes would sometimes entertain themselves. I highly recommend this book.

Wonderful but short
Top notch quality in printing and definition, the quality of the book is great and the content most interesting; it's only fault is that with less than a hundred pages it falls short and leaves you wanting for more.

Wonderful examples of interesting and funny marginalia
Wonderful examples of interesting and funny marginalia. It's a short book so I wasn't expecting in-depth research but there is a lot of good info in here, and certainly refers to other resources for future reference. It seems like a book for younger readers but this older reader got a lot out of it too. After reading this I purchased two other books in this series.

While I found the text extremely interesting, I had hope to learn more about technique. This simply points to images one might encounter with very brief discussion. and while the illustrations are entirely in color, one needs a magnifying glass to see what the author is discussing.

Handsome book!
The quality of book makes me hard. Thick paper, fine dpi, lots of great medieval margins! The only thing I dislike, some pictures are on double pages, and part of picture is hidden.

A wee insight.
This book concentrates on the images that appear in the margins of medieval manuscripts. This is a huge subject area and would be impossible to cover in such a small book. This book draws on common themes that appear in the margins and gives examples of them mostly from the collections with the Getty Collections. It is an enjoyable book none the less.
