You know, it wasn't until I heard the live version of 'Hand in Glove' on this collection that I realised what all the fuss was about. Pop?!! Some weedy bloke in a cardigan with flowers sticking out of his backside! Rubbish! This was a rock band, OK? This collection of the odd A side and more B sides is an absolute must have and a fantastic first stop on your journey to discover The Smiths if you're just starting out. When the NME reported the band breaking up, they said to my jilted generation that Morrisey and Co were leaving behind that 'they were OUR Beatles'. Too right they were! You can hear their influence today in a number of bands including (dare I say it) Radiohead. Louder than Bombs!? Oh yes! Highly Recommended indeed.

This album features some very popular B sides such as asleep and Please let me get what I want. However it is the lesser known tracks such as the punky London that are really surprising. I am far too young to remember the band but their hits are very well known. I am hearing some of the rarer stuff for the first time and the quality is still there. This night has opened my eyes is stunning. The Smiths never seemed to produce fillers. They were not around for very long but their standards are sky high and this fantastic compilation is a great starting point for thosenot already familiar with their work.

I bought this album originally when first released. If someone was looking to buy their first smiths album this is a good choice. A stunning cross section of songs. I have played this thousands of times over the years and it never gets old. The songwriting partnership of Morrissey and Marr was the most influential for me personally.

Excellent CD, great mix of older tracks (although I prefer the rawer versions on Hatful of Hollow they still are good to have as part of this CD) and their later ones, classics such as Is it so strange; Sweet and tender hooligan; Sheila take a bow, and Shoplifters; love it. A must have for any Smiths fan's collection.

My original smashed so now have son who I want to introduce to good music. Taken to university & now more shoe gazers appear.

Had to return the item for exchange. Imperfections on the vinyl caused the needle to jump. Probably just a bad press. Replacement vinyl was fine.
