Mackie Audio Interface, Onyx Producer 2X2 USB Audio Interface with MIDI (Onyx Producer 2-2)

I purchased this inexpensive Mackie audio interface so I can leave it at my summer cabin to use for music projects. I’ve used Mackie products before and so I’ve come to expect their reputation for quality, reliability, and good sound. They always build their hardware to be durable and ergonomically on point. Integration with my Cubase DAW and other applications was seamless as to be expected.

You're reading this review so I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest this might be the first piece of Mackie gear you've ever considered? No? Well then for those of you who have other Mackie gear I'll say this little gizmo is up to their usual standards. Nuff said, right?So now that I really *am* talking to a first-time Mackie purchaser I'll tell you that you simply can't go wrong buying their gear (and no, I don't work for Mackie). At some point, someone high up in this company issued an edict that said, "We shall not build crap." The regular Joes and Janes unquestionably got the message. I've been buying Mackie products off and on for over twenty years and not one single piece of equipment (of theirs) has ever let me down.This little Onyx Artist 1-2 is no exception. The knobs are super heavy and feel great. They're sturdy and responsive. I haven't tested this theory, but I suspect I could drop it from quite a height and it would keep on working. It's built like a tank.I bought this to drive my Mackie studio monitors from my Macbook Pro. All I had to do was purchase a USB-C to USB-B cable and plug it in. No drivers, no fuss, it just worked right out of the box. I'm not even plugging any inputs into it but it's nice to know I have a few ports when I'll want them.If you're just looking for a nice preamp so you can go from your computer to some studio monitors look no further. The only reason not to buy this particular model is if you need more inputs. In that case, look first at Mackie's other USB interfaces and if you can't find something that fits your workflow take a look at Focusrite's products (Saffire, etc.). They make a decent gear too, but nobody in the audio industry comes close to Mackie.Enjoy!

Reliable little interface. The audio drivers are less problematic than ASIO4all and easy to install, there is no noise, and it is dead simple to operate. For the price, I don't think you are going to find a better interface. Especially if you don't want to fiddle around, and you just want to record music

I bought it as a cheap replacement for a GREAT interface - Zoom U44 which I absolutely loved but which after several years of flawless work with Win10 laptop started having problems (system was not recognizing it after some random amount of time - from 3hrs to 3 mins). I think it was one of Win10 updates so I still keep U44 around but I needed some reliable and CHEAP replacement so I went with Mackie.It works - I like sound quality from U44 better but Mackie it OK for my specific purposes - home recording of electric/acoustic guitar and vocal - done as jazz hobbyist with zero pretentions to being a pro. It had some weird issue once or twice after switching between Reaper, BIAB and BIAS FX standalone but simple reboot fixed it. It works fine with the three aforementioned pieces of software.The two issues that caused 4-star ranking are:1. wimpy output - I use Presonus monitors and U44 could drive them fine but Mackie for some reason needs volume quite a bit - 2/3 of the way. And it is not me - I am not going deaf. So if for some reason you need a lot of volume then Mackie may not be your best bet. It has enough volume for normal work - mixing etc. but it is a bit weird that you have to crank it up.2. finding the correct gain level for your inputs is a bit harder than it was on U44. And when it overdrives it does in an ugly way - very scratchy - U44 had almost amp like dirt. Not a huge deal - I keep my setup connected the same way for long stretches but if I was using different sound sources then it would be somewhat annoying.If I was buying a completely new interface I think I would look elsewhere but in my case it was a cheap (and hopefully temporary) replacement for U44 and it does the job fine.

I was looking for something that would work flawlessly with my Linux setup, and this works perfectly. 5 stars fo ease of use. Sound quality, and universal compatibility. I use it to recordy bass, do video calls, and participate in online bass lessons

Purchased this unit in October 2018 (Producer 2-2) To replace my previous M-Audio interface that was some 16 years old, which I use for home recording (vocals/guitars/amps) I was interested in purchasing one sooner but frequently found I was having a hard time deciding which unit would be best, based on professional reviews as well as customer reviews (and weeding through those to make sure the lower-starred reviews are from people who know what they're talking about).I was drawn to this unit because at the time it was fairly new, and actually didn't have a lot of reviews, but one reviewer who was sent one to test out left a very favorable, comprehensive review. I was also drawn to the rugged aspect of it as sometimes I travel with it.Installation was straightforward, drivers were easy to get. I can't speak to the included software as I already have software I prefer to use (Reaper), but I had no issues getting the unit configured and working with my setup and getting right to work. I use Windows 10 64 bit and have never had issues with recognition or connection to either of my computers. Great low latency, and between the driver setttings and the DAW it's easy to tweak it if you feel the need to refine it. I have and would recommend this unit.

This is a great interface. It worked right away when plugging into my Mac M1 Air. I did need a connector for the usb to usb c connection. It allows me to record my external synths in stereo with the combination inputs. Very pleased with purchase and the price. I have owned a Scarlett Solo and Volt 1, both are good interfaces. However, I prefer this one.
