Must-have tool if you have a Dremel
Initially I was leery of this cutting wheel because it looks so -- weird -- and too bulky for a Dremel. Boy, was I wrong! I have been cutting away without the wood starting to smoke or show burn marks, and by that I mean things like craft sticks and thicker wood pieces. I use pliers to hold items in place since one slip could cost a finger or at least a finger tip. It works great, and I even cut tiny rounds off a thin stick. They flew all over the place, but they cut perfectly.

Very versitile wood cutting tool!
I have no wood working equipment or tools. So I purchased this wheel to go with my Dremel and extension. I used this to create a Nativity Creche custom made for my Willow Tree Nativity. Not only did it perform perfectly, it's rearing to go for a lot more wood work. It barely shows any wear and that is just cosmetic. I made this creche out of 1/2 inch trim and 1/4 inch boards with a few various bits of trim here and there. I exclusively used this cutter, no saws or jigs were use. Most of what I used was cheap White Pine, but there was a small amount of Ceder and Oak trim as well. Everything cut perfectly. I do recommend getting the Dremel extender so you're not having to hold the entire Dremel and can get a bit closer to the wood. For the most part I had no problems with it over heating and burning the wood. There were a few times I ran into a nail and it shot sparks, but it wasn't enough to damage the tool. I am really impressed with this little guy. Now I want to do more wood projects! I recommend it completely. Gives your Dremel a whole new life in wood working. This does require the easy on/off head, however I already had that for other cutting wheels (plastic, metal). It is super easy to use and quick for switching out blades -- for instance if you need to grind down a nail that was a bit too long with the metal wheel.

Make sure you have a REAL jig saw handy
I guess for fine work on crafts and small parts this would be very useful. I originally thought I would use it to cut through the tongue and groove pine ceiling to make the circular hole for the light fixture. This is very soft wood. But, well, that's just way beyond the capability of this tool. The jig saw did it very handily.

Great replacement for wood
I have been using a Dremel for a long time in various capacities, mostly just to fix things or complete projects such as cutting steel closet rods down or even cutting open a lock with a lost key. On a recent project, I needed to cut some wood dowels in varying lengths. The Dremel worked great, although it would occasionally burn the wood which smelled terrible and the going was a bit slow. A few days into the project, I was perusing Dremel accessories and saw this cutting wheel. It was the first time I was aware of the "EZ Lock" accessories and so I bought the wheel and the EZ Lock holder. I am very satisfied with the results and finished my project, cutting the remaining dowels more than twice as quickly as before. If you have some wood to cut for projects, I would recommend this product for depths of at least 1/2" - 1". The only note I would like to add is that on occasion, when I was holding the Dremel/wheel perpendicular to my body, it did throw some wood at my face and against my protective eyewear. I believe the notches on this wheel sometimes ate the soft wood on the dowels in chunks. Of course, you are supposed to hold the wheel parallel to your body, blowing anything to the left and right, not potentially towards yourself.

Used on Hard Maple
I used this cutting wheel on a Dremel 100 series tool to cut hard maple. Because I move quite often I try not buy many power tools, but I do have my compact/versatile Dremel. So I tried to use my Dremel to cut a 1" x 6" x 4' piece of hard maple to make a paddle. Overall it worked well. I was able to cut the straight portions of my paddle in a half hour or so. I used a coping saw for the curved portions. I orginally tried to use the coping saw for the whole paddle but it was a lot of work and my cuts weren't nearly as straight as when I used the cutting wheel. Because the cutting wheel only cuts about 1/2" deep I had to cut on one side and then flip the piece over and cut on the other side to make a cut the full depth of the wood. While I wouldn't recommend to use this method to make many cuts, I would recommend it for small projects on hard woods for 1" thick or less and ideally less than 1/2" thick. I haven't tried it on soft woods like pine but I would guess it would cut through it like butter.

Amazing Cutting Tool
I would give this thing 10 stars if I could. I attached it to my Dremel 8200 and was surprised at how easy it was to use. It cuts through 5/8" inch plywood like butter. In my case, I used it to cut my roofing plywood from INSIDE the attic in order to modify poorly aligned holes that my roofers cut in when installing 4" Broan bathroom vents on the roof. I didn't want to use a plunge saw for fear of damaging the water integrity of my roof, so I modified the hole with this cutting device. In very little time, I was able to screw in the Broan duct adapter and hook up the vent line to the bathroom fan.
