Not square, not even close
I would not buy these brackets again. They were way out of square, more than 1/4" on either side of the bracket. I bought them because the price was good. Not worth it for extra work involved to shim the brackets square. Seller told me they met the standard before I purchased, they did not and would not meet any standard. Spend the extra few bucks and buy them at Home Depot. If I did not need them them for a one day project at my Dad's house I would have sent them back.

The answer is extremely poor welds on brace
It's a bracket. How can you screw up a bracket? The answer is extremely poor welds on brace. Many of the brackets were warped due to no heat management during welding. And many of the welds look cold. Indeed, I broke on weld with little force. Not recommended for use that requires anywhere near their advertised load rating.
