Nifty MiniDrive for MacBook Pro 15 Memory Card

My MacBook Pro 15 Retina (2012) was running out of space and I didn’t want to go to the expense of upgrading the ssd for some extra space. Enter this Nifty MiniDrive and a decent 128gb micro SD card, all for about £30.Whilst this Nifty is not specifically designed for the 2012 MBP, it sits in the card slot fine, about 1mm inset from the laptop body, which I can live with. It can be removed, with a custom bent paper clip, but I just leave mine in!Install is straight forward, as long as you have selected show all drives in Disk Utility. Only then can you easily format it properly, so it mounts fine every time. (I didn’t have all drives showing initially, so it took me longer than it should have to set it up!) Only slight gripe is that it does not unmount/eject when your MBP goes to sleep, so you’ll find that your battery will be depleted faster when MBP is sleeping. Solutions to this are to shut down MBP down, rather than sleep, eject it before you put MBP to sleep (in which case you’ll also have to remount it when you wake up MBP) or get a 3rd party app to do the unmount/remount quietly in the back ground.All in all, happy with it’s performance and good to see that what started off as a crowd funding project made it to full retail and solved a problem, which was created by Apple not using standardised SD card slots in it’s MBPs!

One time introduced in the laptop, due to erroneous design with a size too close to the laptop slit, it results impossible its extraction without using a metal too (e.g., a screwdriver) ruining forever the notch of the Nifty Minidrive. The best solution is just to buy from Competitors any of their correctly engineered models.

Nothing to be said, this is brilliant. works on my macbook pro 2012 13" non retina display, it will also work on 15" macbook pro 15" with retina display.I placed a 200GB microSD card inside to give me 200gb on board storage. Works perfectly.Would I recommend? 100%

This mostly works but often seems to lose contact and 'disappears' from my desktop. On the whole, it does the job when fitted with a 200gb micro chip.

Exactly as advertised, only wish I found this a few years ago, thanks to all the useful reviews!Fits perfectly flush and my 2010 MBP now has a very useful extra 200gb.Perfect

Despite what the product description claimed this memory card did not fit my 2016 Apple Mac Pro laptop.Therefore a waste of money! Make your own mind up.

I cannot say that it is Nifty Minidrive FOR Macbook PRO 15 completely fault, I know there has been few problems regarding to the mounting of any sd card in this slot.So to start with, the slot in my mac didn't work properly, I tried blowing and finally I cleaned it with a piece of kitchen paper with a bit of alcohol and, it work! so now any SD card from camera with pictures works just fine.Then I decided to buy this Nifty and add a microSD 64GB SanDisk. When I tried, it just doesn't show up. I attempted quite a few times and still, nothing.If in a while it shows in my desktop, I will let you know.UPDATE! It works, after cleaning it I left it in place, and the day after, when I turned my mac on...... it was there.

je l'ai acheté pour avoir un stockage de plus sur mon macbook , et pour essayer une autre fonctionnaliteé que les cartes sur lesquelles je mets des photos et videos..Comme je trouvais cela sympa de boucher le trou et ne pas abimer la carte , j'ai donc acheté ce petit joujou.. malheureusement il rentre avec force et dificile de l'enlever. Les cartes n'apparaissent pas donc je ne sait pas si il fonctionne.Bien pour les laptop de 2011.

Doesn’t fit MacBook Air but that was my fault. I sanded the ends flat and it fits perfect and looks great.

Favoloso!Comprato per aumentare lo spazio di archiviazione del mio mbp 15" del 2015.Internamente ho una SSD da 250GB che, in una macchina da lavoro (sviluppo software) dopo un po' di anni risultano pochi (macchine virtuali, documenti, ambienti di lavoro etc etc hanno il loro peso).Questo adattatore, in combinazione con una scheda microsdhc da 250gb, mi ha fatto respirare un po', senza dover eliminare nulla.L'adattatore è ottimo (ma ovviamente anche la qualità della sd fa la differenza) considerando che su di essa tengo le macchine virtuali, che girano tranquillamente anche 2 o 3 insieme.Sul mio modello di mbp, sporge per un paio di millimetri (ma non da alcun fastidio, e la lascio sempre inserita).Su altri modelli, arriva proprio a filo dello chassis (e ammetto che all'occhio è + gradevole).Ma a noi, dell'aspetto ci importa poco, in confronto alla funzionalità! :)

Perfecto para macbook pro mid 2011. He ampliado memoria (le he puesto una mini sd de sandisk). y ha quedado muy bien integrado.

Die Farbe passt optimal zum Finish der Aluminium MacBooks. Das Minidrive ist kürzer als der SD Kartenslot am MacBook Pro (Mitte 2012) und wenn man es ganz hineindrückt, ist es nicht mehr bündig mit dem MacBook Gehäuse. Das Minidrive funktioniert aber auch wenn man es nur so weit reindrückt, bis es bündig mit dem Gehäuse ist.Zum herausholen sollte man Fingernägel haben wenn man nicht immer ein kleinen Metalldraht dabei haben will um das Minidrive wieder heraus zu holen.Ich benutze das Minidrive mit einer SD Karte von SanDisk (Extreme UHS-I U3 128GB ) und erreiche eine Schreibgeschwindigkeit von 50MB/s und eine Lesegeschwindigkeit von 90MB/s.
