Monsters: A Bestiary of the Bizarre

I was very disappointed in this book having read some of the absurdly glowing reviews! The author has put very little effort in by just padding out each category with lots of pictures with barely any written information - if you just want pictures taken from the internet in a book format then this is the book for you.

Fantastic little coffee table style book filled with great information and even greater images from a variety of cultures and sources. The images are high quality and the book gives a fantastic insight into old as well as newer cultures views on beasts, demons and devils.My reason for a 4 star rating? Although it is highly detailed, I wish each image had a a note about which creature was which on the page rather than a brief index at the end of the chapter. Some pages aren't numbered, so require that you do some counting to see what you have been looking at.I realise I'm being pedantic and a little lazy, but aside from that one small gripe, a really fantastic little book from a great author who researches his subject matter in a great way in all of his books. Im definitely a fan.

this book is mainly illustrations,was hoping it would contain more writing than it haswish i hadnt ordered it

Not bad as an introduction. The amount of text is rather limiting, as the book seems to draw more on its very visual presentation, containing a whole bag of good full-colour imagery. But this really is just a broad overview, albeit a 'pretty' one. Not suitable for anything academic.3.75 Stars.

Nice little book.....good illustrations.

Bought this for a friend's birthday gift, and he thoroughly loved it. Great picture imagery, even though the descriptions tend to be on the succinct side... an interesting book to peruse at leisure.

An very interesting book which has lively illustrations of a wide variety of mythological creatures from various different periods of history. Well produced and presented.
