Is this mirror genuine?

Yes it seems to be. Have never had one before to make a comparison. But it is good quality. Have used for 6 months now, with no deterioration in the case or mirror, and no fading of the logo. It is smaller than I expected but it is a handbag mirror. My wife is very happy.

is it a genuine chanel item

I have various Chanel items bought directly from Chanel in Bond Street so I know they are genuine, however, being a trusting soul I presumed this also to be genuine but have no way of knowing except to say that it is without distortion in the mirrors and does what I bought it for. Handbags have numbers and certificates to prove authenticity and with the ingenuity and breathtaking skills the counterfeiters have these days it is very hard to not get caught by these cheats without taking a university degree in 'Spotting Fakes', especially in highly priced goods such as Chanel, etc. Other than to say the mirror I have seems of good quality & typical in weight and finish as the cosmetic containers that I have, I can only declare that I am happy with my purchase. Sadly the only way to be absolutely sure is to go to Bond Street or Bluewater or any large departmental store which has good reason to supply only genuine articles or shop other than online.
