Perfect for tilta ring grip + monitor
I’ve been using this clamp to mount my monitor to my tilta ring grip, and it’s been an outstanding addition to my gear. The clamp holds firmly in place, even during intense movements, and the double ball head provides excellent flexibility for adjusting the monitor to the perfect viewing angle. The build quality is solid and reliable, giving me confidence that it won’t slip or fail during a shoot. The non-slip threads are a thoughtful touch, ensuring a secure grip every time. Despite its sturdy design, it’s compact and lightweight, making it easy to take along to any shoot. For anyone looking for a reliable and versatile mounting solution, whether for a monitor, light, or other accessories, this is an excellent choice. Highly recommended for its functionality and value!

It's just so useful
There comes a time in your photographic or video life where you think “if that could just go there it would be perfect” but you cant mount it. That’s where this clamp comes in, and specifically this one from SmallRig.No stats this time, but do check out SmallRig’s Site1. DESIGNDCM_1610Now the design is obviously going to be pretty industrial, it’s a clamp and that’s what it looks like. That being said however there are still some clever design features that this particular clamp holds (pun intended). Both the clamp and magic arm are black and branded with the SmallRig Branding and the clamp uses a screw to open and close it instead of a spring. This tightening handle does stick out from the body quite a way but look at it this was, the handle is so big to help with leverage, the larger the handle the tighter you can make the clamp, so it’s a plus really. The handle also slides up and down the screw so you can still twist the handle if something gets in the way. The arm can be removed from the clamp as it just uses a 1/4″ screw, meaning that you can use the clamp without the arm if you so desire, there’s also a larger 3/8″ screw hole if you want to mount it to something bigger. The clamp also features hard rubber pads to prevent it slipping from whatever it’s attached to. Moving on to the magic arm, it uses two halves to clamp down on two ball joints either end, its very simple design but works. The ball joints only move in one direction which means that mounting it at strange angles can be a challenge. Design is a tricky one to judge as it’s just so basic, there’s nothing really wrong but nothing really outstanding, I’m giving it a bang-in-the-middle score of 2.5/52. BUILD QUALITYDCM_1623This thing is nearly all metal, the only things that aren’t metal are the screw handle on the magic arm, and the non-slip pads on the clamp. I thought that the non clip pads would fall off due to weak glue, but no. Sure if you really pry at them they will but for normal uses there’s nothing to worry about. Now with this thing being metal it can take a beating. It has been knocked, scratched, dropped and it only came back with a few scuffs. The most wear i have seen is the paint being stripped from the thread holes and that really doesn’t affect use. I feel the weak points here are the threads and the handles, the screw that connects the arm to the clamp has come loose sometimes, not fall-over loose but loose enough to move whatever you’ve attached. SmallRig have not given any details on the maximum payload of the clamp so I’m not sure if I’m just overbearing it. Summed up, the build quality of this thing is stellar as long as you don’t try and attach a DSLR + lens to it! For what it’s designed for the build gets a 4/5.3. FUNCTIONALITYDCM_1625This is classed as a “tube clamp” meaning it works best when attached to bars, posts, tripod legs that kind of thing. But in reality, it will hold on to whatever fits! Table legs, window ledges, railings if it fits it sticks! It can hold your lights, small camera, microphone or whatever you want and keep it there with ease. Please bear in mind I am talking about stationary objects here! Moving objects it’s not so amazing. I have tried various different ways to mount it to my bike and it always manages to wiggle it’s way out of position. Also if this clamp moves around a lot, you can hear the CLANG from when the clamp handle slides across, kinda ruining your audio. I don’t think it’s designed for action like a GoPro mount or something, it’s more for the studio, holding up something when you don’t have that much space. It’s still great out and about too, when I want to shoot time lapses and I am not allowed to set up a tripod. I just clam it to some rails or a post and it holds just fine. I really love that you can attach anything to anything. I was ready to give it a 5/5. But unfortunately it’s weaknesses under movement mean that it has to be a 4.4. PRICEDCM_1619These kinds of things vary in price, mostly due to what payload they can take. As this is a small clamp it’s only around £16. I think this is a good deal because of how much use you can get out of it. £16 is the same price as some Manfrotto base plates and when you compare their versatility, the clamp is miles ahead. Yes it can’t do everything but you cant expect it to at this price point, if you bought a few of these you could set up a lighting rig pretty much anywhere, there are times I wish I had 2 of them and for the price it’s very easy to do so. Price is great for the quality, but I haven’t tried competitors so I don;t know if it;s the best value, so its a 4.ALTERNATIVESIf you want something that can take a rough ride try this.If you need something just for your GoPro, look here. What about if you don’t care for the arm? No problem.Go the opposite and get a longer, more functional arm here.VERDICTSCORE: 3.6/5IT may seem an unfair rating to give as everything was so high, but remember if you don’t care about the low points then you may see this as a great product! I really do like this and it has saved me in many situations. I wouldn’t reccomend this to everyone as it;s lack of stability under movement is not great. But for small rigs in it’s a big yes!Thankyou for reading,Kofo Out.Review taken from my blog: smallgearmatters.wordpress.com

Excellent Smallrig build quality!
I don't usually leave feedback but after buying the K&F Concept Super Clamp (because it looked cool) and then immediately returning it because one of the threads came loose, I brought this and I can say handsdown the build quality of the Smallrig is miles apart from the K&F and it is built to last! This is an excellent little bit of kit and cheaper than the K&F. Save your money and your sanity

Great bit of kit but clamp for about 30mm max diameter
Real quality bit of kit, all metal apart from Gopro bracket which is absolutely fine and expected. The only down side for me was I was hoping to fit this on my car roll cage which is 45mm in diameter, while the clamp does go around the roll cage it's not fully secure as the jaws are just not long enough and could be pulled off. For a push bike etc this a great price of kit.

Brilliant - wish I'd bought one sooner
I have to say that upon receiving this item I was surprised by the physical weight of the package. Upon opening the box it was extremely well packaged against damage, once out of the protective card packaging, the reason for the weight become obvious. This clamp isn't a cheap plastic clamp, it's made of metal and looks to be well engineered, of course there are a couple of plastic parts but nothing that, should they break, will have any effect on the clamping mechanism. While I haven't used this "out in the wild" as yet, a few test clamping it to a selection of things aroung the home, it works as it should.Am I happy with it? - YesWould I buy another? - Yes if the need arisesWould I recommend it? - If you need a versatile clamp, then it's three yes's from me.

Sturdy, strong, reliable: perfect
Every Smallrig item does what it says it should. This is a strong, reliable clamp. It offers a good range of positions. I'm using it to connect an audio recorder to a video tripod. And it feels solid; no concerns about it moving or not being secure. Perfect!

Really sturdy little clamp
This is not a cheap plastic clamp, it is made from machined steel and alloy (with a few plastic bits) but the general impression is one of quality that far surpasses the relatively modest price. The clamp works perfectly, it tightens well to make a sturdy support, particularly for still photography. Highly recommended.
