So glad I didn't have to make it!!
I purchased the R2-D2, along with a Tie Fighter, for my husband for Christmas. I thought they would make nice little stocking fillers. My husband started on the Tie Fighter first, and after lots of cursing, and him putting the part finished model to one side till he had the patience to continue.......it was finished! Having successfully finished one, he started on R2-D2. Again....there were a few choice words and mutterings about 'stupid fiddly bloody thing' but when it was finished both it and the Tie Fighter looked brilliant. I'm not so sure these types of model would be suitable for anyone under the ages of at least 14+ as they are so incredibly fiddly. They are amazing little models......note the word little, they are very small.......however, if you have the time and patience, and definitely the right tools, they really do look great when they are finished.

A fantastic looking item very intricate, some very small pieces. Some sharp burrs can happen so you need to smooth with the sandpaper but it does not affect the asthetic of the build.

Tricky but worth the effort, like a jedi mind trick
These look great when done but you really need patience and some suitable craft tools. Without these you will end of with bleeding fingers. I’m not the most patient of people so got to admit a few choice words were used when building but walk away come back to it later and you do end up with a lovely little model. My advice, check and check again before building each piece as amending an error can be difficult and risk breaking the very small fragile parts

Real challenge
This was really challenging. Almost took 2 hours to do. Built mine years ago and it's still standing, quality is great. Great value for money and beautiful once completed.

A great challenge to put together and a lovely little model when complete!
Having bought a couple of the Disney Metal Earth sets from the parks there, I knew this would be a great gift for a friend who loves to build things as well as loving Star Wars. It's safe to say that he was absolutely thrilled and is loving the challenge of putting this all together! From my own experience of Metal Earth kits, this is definitely something for older children or adults. They are very fiddly and require a lot of patience to put together taking quite a few hours to complete! I have to say though, they were a great distraction for me when I was jet lagged!

Very cool but very frustrating !!!
This is a great little project to keep you busy (took me around 3 hours) using the bare minimum tools, tweezers and my sore hands. Like someone else's review this was the second one I purchased. Everything was going well until I got to part 26. The pieces are miniscule and snapped off with very little movement. For some reason Metal Earth have decided to make these parts with a kind of dotted fold line which is not a good idea and totally unnecessary, please Metal Earth if you're reading this you must fix this issue. Just add a normal fold line.

It’s encouraged a Star Wars shrine!
My boyfriend absolutely loves Star Wars. I’ve come across these a couple of times and debated whether to get them for him. One of his hobbies are model making, he loves investing a lot of time in something and constructing / painting things. Due to his love of Star Wars I thought this would be the perfect gift, and let’s be honest the metal earth models look AWESOME! I don’t regret buying this at all, once my boyfriend made it up, it looked great and he invested a fair bit of time into it, as that’s a downside to most models, they take 5 mins to make. Whereas this took him a couple of hours. If anything it’s made us want to get some shelves put up so we can buy more! The value for money is great, they look brilliant once made.

Amazingly detailed & accurate models
Amazingly accurate and detailed model. I needed a magnifying glass to assemble - about 5 hours. Younger hands and eyes would take less time. Patience and care will produce a stunning model. I have ordered the fighter and falcon in the same series. The model stands 7cm tall. It is surprisingly robust. Tweezers, small pliers & patience is all that's needed. My first kit since the 70's when I made aircraft, boats and hovercraft firstly from kits, then plans & then my own designs. Guess it needs a 'modellers background' or 'mindset'. I hope other similar models are developed. Highly recommended.

This is the 3rd of the Star Wars series of models I've build from Metal Earth. These Star Wars models are a new evolution of kits beyond the early planes and buildings, and it shows in the details. If you compare any of the Star Wars kits to the likes of the P51 Mustang or F22 Raptor, you will see a noticeable increase in kit complexity. This translates into a more enjoyable and involved kit to build. The detail on R2D2 is superb. The raised areas and lenses you expect to see on his dome-top are all there. The recessed ports and vents are also there in detail. The resulting model is impressive. The difficulty of this model on a scale of 1-5 is about a 4. There is a fair amount of rounding of the metal and the construction is pretty involved, but not quite as challenging as the TIE fighter was. None-the-less, I would Not recommend this as a starter kit for those new to building Metal Earth kits. As always, I would point to the P51 Mustang as a starter. Standard disclaimer I put on all my reviews of Metal Earth kits: Be careful when reading the bad reviews posted by some. Some people blame their inability to complete this style kit on the kit itself. Don't be fooled, the kit itself is very high quality. The detail is superb, and the metal pieces are sturdy if you don't bend them repetitively (as you would if you made a mistake). Hence, I continue to recommend these kits to experienced builders with good manual dexterity, but not for children.

I really enjoyed this build, up until i started working on the feet. A total of 4 pieces broke and it'll be impossible to complete it. The first part of the build was done mostly with actual folding lines, yet the feet were made up of only perforated lines. These are extremely weak and break immediately. There's a piece where you have to make a bunch of 90 degree bends, which broke into 3 pieces because it's impossible to get it exactly right without bending a piece a little too far. All in all, I do not recommend this kit because it's quite poorly designed and there's no room for error. I will try to finish it by glueing it together... I guess it'll give the R2 some personality!

Super Bausatz!
