Water Clear Casting Cast Resin 0.5kg (Polyester) - Supplied with Hardener & Syringe

Our daughter is getting married soon and my wife suggested that my normal pursuits of battleship, submarine and Imperial Star Destroyer construction (models of course) be suspended and I turn myself to those more appropriate.I thought therefore I’d try to make some of these illuminated letters to make a display. I managed to crack the ampersand and thus needed a new one and some casting resin quickly. I am grateful to Swindon Watersports for quick and free delivery and I was ready to re-work the broken letter in no time.The resin kit has all that you require. It does give off a pretty aggressive and all pervasive smell once the container is opened and even as it cures. For this reason work outside and wait a couple of days until it has properly cured. The kit also contains lollipop stirrers, gloves and a couple of measuring beakers. It is one of the cheapest suppliers I have come across. Quality is clear, like water as they say, and results are limited only by one’s imagination. I’ve installed the rechargeable lighting and my daughter and fiancé are delighted with the results.Picture shows Ampersand sprayed silver inside then LED lights added then the resin run in and completed montage on oak plinth.

I bought this product to try out resin craft and for a starter kit it is fine. As others have mentioned the smell is quite strong but I was using it outside so didn’t really matter.The syringe doesn’t fit in the hardener bottle so is not fit for purpose. Also, not sure if it is my inexperience but I can’t get this to set well. It seems a little sticky around the edges. I’ve tried a few times, adding more hardener and leaving for longer and it still happens. It also holds marks when getting out of mould e.g. fingerprints. I expected it to set better than this. Good for practise but not as good as I had hoped.

I have given four starts because the product is not at fault. It is the circumstance they may be used in that took one star off. I got a very clear and detailed caste from this of a very small object. So the product is a good one. The issue is as other reviewers have pointed out: the fumes are really serious fumes. This product, in my opinion, is really not for the hobby modeller who makes small castes for fun. To use this product you really do need a fully functioning, air controlled, suited and booted workshop. I am not saying that this product does not work, or that it is a bad product. It works and it gives the most beautiful crystal clear caste. It is just that, you really do need to know what you are doing. For a small bit hobby user, I would say don't use it, there are more suitable things to use out there. Also one last thing, when sawn or milled it gives off small fibre like particles. It needs proper extraction. This is another reason why I would say, not for use in the home, especially not the kitchen table. If you know all about resins , which I didn't when I first bought it, and can handle them properly, then there is no reason not use this resin. It is a case of appropriate products for the appropriate place.

First go at using resin. This is fab! Very strong smell, definitely need to work in an outdoor space or a room with plenty of ventilation.. Smell lingers for a while after too. The resin is clear and no bubbles! Thankyou will buy again. Only thing I would say is could do with better packing as cups were broken so a bit annoying but luckily could still use them :)

Used the resin to fill a channel I had created in the rear of two bespoke matching bedside units I have designed and made (see pictures). No pigment added. Very clear finish, flows/pours well with a no bubbles and a really hard and easy to sand and polish finish. I have also used for a couple of wood turned pieces. Cut well with carbide and HSS traditional tools on the lathe.

I bought this to make arty stuff and buying this smaller size allowed me to practice with the amount of hardener required to be added to the resin and it worked a dream...….after a couple of very small hit and misses. The scent is strong, hence the instruction to use outside or in a well ventilated space, I used it outside. I am very happy with everything that was supplied.....all very useful and the next time I buy resin I will be buying the larger size.
