How many stitches per minute does it do?

I'm not sure...I purchased 2 of these and both seized so keep your money and buy something else

Reviews are generally excellent but criticise the motor as “only 40w”. Does that really matter? I’m looking for a beginner machine that will last.

Depends what you want to sew. A smaller motor generally means it labours on heavier and thicker materials. I have been making pleated cotton masks in numbers and it is coping with 8 layers of cotton percale with 4 layers of interfacing. If you want to make a lot of heavy lined curtains a bigger motor might be preferable. If you are learning to make shirts, skirts, trousers and dresses it will serve you well and when you do become more proficient you might decide to get a specialist machine, but this will still be a very good machine for your general sewing.

Can you adjust the pressure foot hight and pressure so you can sew heavy fabrics like stretch jeans?

There is a foot which comes with the machine with a small black button on the side, this button allows the foot to ride over a bulky seam and still sew. I bought this machine for my granddaughter and it’s ideal for her. If you want something more sophisticated you have to pay more money.
