Brother does have software called PE-Design that can import this file format and convert it for use on this machine.

The Brother PE800 use fabrics with a thickness of less than 3mm (approx. 1/8 inch).

Can this machine embroider ribbons?

The PE800 can embroider on ribbons.

Does the PE800 have the ability to reverse and redo or go back over stitches in case the thread breaks?

Yes; there are a very specific set of buttons on the progress screen, you can skip forward (or backward) in increments of 1,10, and 100 stitches. You don't have to guess as the machines' needle and hoop will backtrack or fast forward in real time. So if the hoop slips or the thread breaks you can start back exactly where you had the error.
