Entertaining!
Good book for a short attention span kid. I feel like a middle school age would be appropriate audience

Details Not Age Appropriate
This is the first book of a series and is aimed towards youngsters ages 9 to 12, however, I would not let my child read it. The plot is interesting and engaging, but the language and constant tween romance undertones should be toned down. This story explores the physical attractions and activities of a group of unsupervised middle school students and sensationalizes their interactions in a way that may mislead younger readers. The book has a solid storyline and potential, but the age group for whom it is intended is inappropriate, and older readers would not enjoy the material. There is a lot of action and excitement, and it offers a beautiful message about doing what is right regardless of the cost. If revisions were made and the book was more age-appropriate, it would be an excellent start to a series.

My 9 year old cannot put this book down! Loves it!
My son was getting bored of the Wimpy Kid and Dog Man books so I found this in the hopes it would get him excited to read again. It worked! He cannot put this book down! He comes in at night laughing telling us about the funny things that happened and how exciting it is. If you want your son to like reading, get this book!!! I'll be buying the rest of the series for him soon.

Great for young adult reading
Bought for my 12 year old son who doesn’t really like to read. He liked it so much that we ordered the 2nd book in the series and will likely get books 3 & 4.

Decent story, crass delivery, too much focus on tween romance
The overarching story is compelling and exciting. But the delivery --middle schooler language, and the constant tween romance themes - needs to be greatly toned down. This story unnecessarily discusses the physical attractions and activities of a group of under supervised middle schoolers. It sensationalizes their interactions in a way that may give the wrong impression to middle school and high school readers. While the lead character has a "do what is right, no matter the outcome" attitude, even he gets caught up in the unnecessary boy-girl banter. It is unfortunate that the author normalizes the boy crazy and girl crazy actions instead of trying to provide a solid and extremely virtuous character that dampens the unnecessary tween romance aspect. Some of their conversations are suggestively inappropriate, and I don't recommend for an immature audience. The author may think this a middle school appropriate story, but without a more virtuous, more chaste anchor to the story, there is just too much crass language and behavior. A more mature audience may be able to handle this story, but I doubt it will be as compelling a read for them because of the age of the characters and supposed target audience. The author gets two stars for the overarching story, the action and suspense, the theme of doing what is right no matter the cost, and the setup for future stories. But the delivery will not allow us to continue this story. Bummer.
