These sprayers work great.

I've written a lot of reviews. The overwhelming majority are 4-5 star, with a few low rated items. That's because I feel I do extensive research first, and 99% I'm happy with my purchases, but boy I did drop the ball on this one. Yeah, I read the reviews, but I should have paid more attention to the only one that matters.... This review comes from a place of knowledge. I've had my own landscape business for 17 years, and I know quality and well as garbage when I use it. I couldn't even get around to using this it's so bad. I know some may feel my review isn't fair since I didn't use it, but these manufacturers can't make needed improvements unless we hold them accountable. ... First of all, as another reviewer noted, the provided C-clips are garbage. I unpacked the sprayer and put it together per instructions. It was immediately clear the clips would be an issue, and yep.. they are. The first problem is the clip on the underside of the unit. The clip it too big to wedge into the tight little space, which means it can't fully engage. It fell out, so I tried to wedge it hoping it would stay put. The next clip higher up on the pumping arm proceeded to fall out after 2 pumps. Luckily I'd just finished putting it together and was still in my den when this happened. It kept happening. So I thought I'll replace the C-clips with a couple of spring hose clamps. I have at least 20 sizes, and all were with too big or small. So, I wrapped metalized duct tape around the ends of the rods to beef of the diameter and added the spring clips back on. Success! Ahhh, but there's more.... I am 6 ft tall and 195 pounds with fairly athletic build. I have a 72" reach, so fairly long arms. Why is this important? Because unless you have little short T-rex arms it is incredibly awkward to pump. The handle should be 6" longer. Also because of the too short handle, I'm unable to completely raise the handle during the pumping action. It bumps into my armpit and only allows for about 80% of a stroke. Not only is it too short, but it's too close to the body. The handle needs to have a dogleg bend in it as to keep it away from the torso. As it is... every stroke rubs the side of my torso, and I'm not fat. Also about the pump handle... there is a really convenient clip for mounting the wand and attaching the handle to the sprayer to keep it up out of the way. The clip is hard plastic, can not be moved, and digs into my side and arm on every stroke. It feels like getting caught atop a chain link fence when it scratches. Brutal. I really really wanted to like this sprayer. It has a slim profile for a 4 gallon which is nice, but few other redeeming qualities outside of that and the metal spray wand. Utter garbage. I agree with the one star review that speaks to the junk C-clips, but I disagree in that it would be a 5 star review if they upgraded the clips. Nope. Too many other issues. Should have just stuck with Chapin. My last one lasted 15 years. I thought it would be effectively the same $$ by going with this new sprayer instead of rehabbing my old one. I'm returning this garbage and I'll purchase another Chapin and just use the old one for parts.

It works very well, sturdy construction. This replaced a 20 year old Hudson, it doesn't have as much pressure and I wish the shoulder strap had a center strap to hold them together so the should straps sat more centered on my shoulders. For anyone who this is your first back pack sprayer, you would not notice these two items. I highly recommend this, I considered a battery powered one, but for the 10 times a year I use this, I decided to go with the manual model.

Easy to assemble and use. Nice design!

Was unable to assemble this product. It came with instructions with tiny writing and tiny illustrations. I'm not blind and I could not read them. And the instructions were not that clear. After a few minutes I threw the whole thing in the garbage can. I would never buy a Jacto product again.

Any sprayer that stops working because it drops small, vital parts in the undergrowth is worse than useless. You spill/waste the very expensive and possibly toxic contents of the sprayer trying to troubleshoot. The problem is a tiny clip that secures the pump handle rod into the plastic base of the sprayer The clip pops off..That allows the rod to work it's way out of the sprayer base, dropping both clip and washers in the undergrowth. Without that clip the rod keeps working it's way out and keeps falling off. The reason the clip pops off is that there is insufficient clearance between the relief in the rod and the moldings in the surrounding plastic base. This prevents you fully engaging the clip on the rod . Operating the pump lever tends to rotate and 'walk' the rod out of it's housing . So the clip pops off again, and again and..... eventually you loose the darn clip and washers. No more spraying ! There is a solution . The correct clip is an "E" clip made from spring steel.Unfortunately Jatco uses thumb clips with very little spring temper and their o.d. is too large to fit in the available space. The Jatco Sprayer has many of these clips and eventually all may give problems. My remedy was to buy (on Amazon) a huge assortment of E-Clips and other retaining clips. Also bought the Neiko insertion tool. The Eclip that fits is 8mm or 5/16". Be sure to buy good quality clips(Amazon) and consider stainless steel instead of.black oxide steel The clips required cost a fraction of one penny If Jatco had used them , this would have been a 5 star review.

Took awhile to get the hang of it but once i got it was a dream.
