How to measure what you need?

To find your perfect fit, take a measuring tape and measure around your head where the cap will sit, usually about a half-inch above your eyebrows and ears. If you are between sizes, buy the larger size. Hats will often shrink, especially if they are made of wool so getting a hat that is just a little too tight will become increasingly uncomfortable over time. Use the size you measure and google a hat chart to find the right size, we are not allowed to attach the link here.

what s size is 7 1/4 in those that shows on the chart?

I believe 7 1/4 corresponds to a circumference of 22 5/8 inches, which is usually considered to be at the between a medium and a large sized hat.

what's the equivalent of 7.125?

7 and 1/8...that is number of fitted hat.
