The sump and sewer ejector pump float switch with the highest reliability
If you want a “set and forget” sump or sewer ejector pump, one of the best things you can do is NOT buy a pump with a built-in vertical float switch. Cast iron pumps can last up to two decades; vertical float switches can fail in a year or two. If the vertical switch is built into the pump, you may need to trash a $400 pump when a $30 float switch fails. A better approach is to use an external piggyback type float switch. That way if the float switch fails, you can easily and inexpensively replace only the float switch and keep using the pump. The best external float switch type for most residential sump and/or sewer ejector pumps is a tethered piggyback type like this one from PumpSpy. Best in terms of simplicity and long term reliability. There are reports that tethered float switches can last for decades. We haven’t been using them for anywhere near that long, but the switch mechanisms are designed for millions of activations and there isn’t much to go wrong with this float switch design. PumpSpy’s tethered float switch is about half the cost of a similar design from Zoeller, and a third the cost of a similar design from Sludge Boss/Pit Alarm. We’ve been using this float switch for a while and find it sufficiently buoyant and completely reliable. The only cons? The PumpSpy tethered float switch has a molded seam on its exterior that potentially could catch on TP or other suspended solids in a sewer ejector basin. The Zoeller and Sludge Boss tethered floats are both completely smooth on the exterior. The PumpSpy tethered float also is smaller than the Zoeller model and a lot smaller than the Sludge Boss model so its maximum buoyancy will be less. Smaller size is a plus for smaller sump pits, but the thicker the suspended solids in a sewer pit the greater the need for higher buoyancy. All in all, for us the PumpSpy float has always had sufficient buoyancy.

This is dependable
This float switch is smaller than normal by a little bit which works better for smaller sump pits. It is critical that you use the hose clamp supplied and it's way of tethering to your discharge pipe. Don't depend on tie straps as they are not as dependable. Over all I have confidence in this product.

Good value for the money
Advice- it is very touchy compared to other floats I have used. It has to be all the way up or down. Other floats turn on when water reaches and has it sideways. Secure it low so the slightest amount of water picks it up to turn it upside down completely to work. Otherwise works as specified.

great for flood control
It does the job that it was meant to do. I installed the float in a five-gallon pail, attached to a PVC pipe. I drilled many holes in the pail and covered the outside with a screen, which I sank into the ground for flood control at our rear door. I wish the float were smaller.

Awesome Customer Service!!!! Great Parts And Well Made!!!!
I'm very impressed on how well made the sub pump bobber is made! And also how the clamp has the plastic clamp on it that holds the wire to keep the metal from cutting into the wire! And the shipping was even faster than I thought it would be! I can tell this company cares about their customers! I will definitely start purchasing from this company and tell others about them to! Thanks again for Great customer service! Rocky 👍

Used for draining overflowing well
Had an issue with my well over filling. Use this with a pump to draw out 50th gallons (about 6”) when the water table gets to high. In the spring it was going off every hour to two hours. Summer I think it’s about 1 time in the early morning it goes off. It was easy to install and has worked over the last 7 months it has been installed for this issue. When we first installed it did catch on something so the float wasn’t engaging. But once we moved it over a smidge and it wasn’t catching on the hatch the system went through, worked like a charm ever since. Would buy again.
