The Art of Classical Guitar Vol 1 - A Complete Method Paperback – Import, May 5, 1989

Have tried several classical guitar methods but found Peter's far and away the most comprehensive, the easiest to follow and most conducive to progress. Wore out the first book; thus need to replace.

So good I gave it away.

I was looking for a technique and tablature starting point to learn classical guitar. This book assumes you're using a teacher for lessons and has limited tablature arrangements. There is lots on the basics, but the book also assumes the student is in elementary school.

As a returning student to the Classical Guitar I researched all of the major authors for the best classical guitar method. I found Art of Classical Guitar Volume 1 to be a perfect offering of highly graduated levels of difficulty for training in both music theory and Classical Guitar technique.In Art of Classical Guitar, Peter Altmeier-Mort presents a fantastic selection of studies and pieces by the "Old Masters" of the 19th Century including Carcassi, Carulli, Sor and Giuliani, as well as his own very carefully crafted arrangements designed to allow the student to practice a particular set of techniques. Throughout the book are Exercises and original Studies designed to give the student a thorough grounding in the basics such as; music theory, the notes on each string, right hand techniques (rest stroke and free stroke), arpeggios, pivot fingers, scales and key signatures - all invaluable lessons to have early on. Any new technique is introduced with a clear explanation and guidance notes in an approachable style and with great advice on how to actually play! By the end of the Volume 1 you find some fantastic repertoire pieces all presented from easiest to hardest and which are great to play.After over 2 years _using_ The Art of Classical Guitar; A Complete Method Volume 1 and Volume 2, I highly recommend this Method series as the best on the market from one of Australia's most distinguished Classical Guitar educators and composers.
