Is the pole on this spinner sturdy enough to be put into ground that is not soft?

Yes, you can use a rubber mallet to pound it in. The pole was very sturdy, better than I expected. You won't go wrong with this purchase. I also used a clear coating prior to putting it out, for extra protection. It works great.

Is there an adjustment that can be made with the top (blue) pieces so that it spins? Even on windy days this item doesn't spin or move much.

I don’t think there is an adjustment for that spinner. It must be almost perfectly level for it to spin with wind. Ours spins fine. Just losing color to sun fade.

The height say 91 inches, can you make it shorter-- as that is 8.5 feet tall!?

Remember that you push about a foot and a half into the ground. It would look silly if it were short since it’s so huge and awesome…it does not stand 8.5’ out of the ground. When placed firmly in the ground it’s about 6 feet tall…

Phhhew!

I bought this as a gift for my lovely wife who has wanted a garden spinner for a while now. I know you don't know my wife but she is piiiiicky!... and does not tolerate poor quality merchandise.
