How long are the handles of these brushes?

I just received a set of these brushes and the bristles are all hard as rocks. Is this normal?

Hello, Gary, and thanks for your question!  It is definitely NOT normal for your brush's bristles to be hard - we dispatch them from the factory in what's known as "stiff" condition, but that is merely for shipping purposes, and is easily dispensed with by using the "artist's pass" of gently pulling the bristles between your fingers - if that time-honored technique for 'massaging' an artist's brushes is not sufficient to meet standard expectations, then I suspect that you may have received a rare defective set of our brushes - we strive mightily to prevent that from happening, but unfortunately mistakes do occasionally happen.

What is the dimensional width of the flat 11 bristles? I ask for canvas coverage (i.e 3/4 inch)
