nice tool. makes the boot install a lot easier.
very easy to use. I've been looking for a decent tool to install the boot rings in a more "professional" way. and they work great. have rebuilt about a dozen axles so far and no issues.

Doesn't work right AND broke on first use
If I could give zero stars, this is one product that would certainly warrant it. I am a professional mechanic who generally works on classic cars, but occasionally need to do work on one of my own personal modern vehicles, and I picked up this set of CV boot clamp tools to service my 2002 Buick LeSabre. I don't do CV boots very often, so I figured I could get away with a cheaper tool for this "once in a blue moon" type of repair. I was totally wrong. These are trash. While the clamps themselves that were included in the kit seem alright quality, the tools themselves are hot garbage. The pliers that are meant to crimp the included CV boot clamps are very cheaply made, and do not appear to be any kind of normal steel, but rather some kind of diecast material. The two pincher fingers are too thick to put a proper crimp in place, and the anvil that is supposed to flatten out the center of the crimp after the crimp is made sits too close to the fingers to allow them to get a decent crimp. What's worse, the brittle material of the pliers literally broke before I even finished the job. Granted, this was about the 4th clamp that I had crimped with these, since it took me at least five tries without getting a decent cramp, but on the 4th crimp one of the crimping fingers broke right off. I don't know if it's simply incredibly brittle steel, or diecast, but the crimp pliers are worthless. And as you can see from the picture, because of the crappy design, these things will only crimp one side of the band clamp, leaving a messy crimp that will not hold. The "winch type" tool for the bend-and-clamp-in-place style band clamps that are included with most aftermarket CV boots were only marginally better. Both of the tool arms for the cutter and the winch want to fall out, since the cutter arm is held in with a crappy set screw and the cutter arm itself has a notch so that unless the set screw is tightened ultra tight, it will just fall out when it rotates. It looks like they were trying to machine a flat spot for the set screw to engage, but they totally messed up and didn't machine it properly, instead machine off the raised area that should be retaining the lever. The winch side lever has a flared end on one end to keep it from falling out, but that little red rubber cap is all that keeps it from falling out the other end, and that red rubber cap is so loose it falls off constantly. While I was able to use this tool to install and cut the aftermarket type fold and clamp band clamps, doing so was an exercise in frustration. Seriously, these tools are not even worth the bargain price. You're going to wait for them to show up only for them to not work. You would be just better off to get a higher quality set of tools to begin with. It would have been worth paying twice as much to get a set of tools that worked, instead of wasting an hour of my time with these pieces of crap and then having to jump through the hoops to return these things Some of these inexpensive tools on Amazon you can get away with, and this set is not one of them. I'm going to be returning these and getting my money back. Zero stars, absolute garbage.

Banding Tool Does Not Work For These Clamps
The clamps look excellent and work well. I paid extra for the banding tool, not really knowing how it worked. Didn't come with instructions. Found a video on YouTube and the tool does not appear to work with these style bands. The tool has a winder (tensioner) and a cutter. Maybe I can use the cutter by itself to size these clamps before installation but the winder is useless. The handle on the cutter slides out of the tool, like the end was meant to be stamped or something. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be. No big deal, but added to my confusion about how to used the tool. You will need the crimp tool to finalize tension on the bands.
