Sometimes you wish they would just get over it...
I enjoyed this movie, I swear I did. However, sometimes I just hope that the disconnect writers go for as some obstacle to overcome could just be conquered in less time with more of a rewarding climax. Once again, I am feeling left alone with each of these characters when I should feel like I'm feeling the bond they could be creating. Not every story needs to feel so conflicted. Their bond was obvious and was progressing rather naturally after the bully/bullee trope which, I will admit, gets me every single time. The second act just failed in how it was delivered and the third followed suit. Cliche as many LGBTQA+ narratives go.

The Agora of Lonely Love
Being 17 is a French "Call Me By Your Name." ...a year earlier and of classmates/co-equals. ...a tale of awakenings and the Fates.Thomas is a farmer-family's only - but adopted - son. His mom is pregnant and yet this time, thanks to Damien's mother - the small nearby town doctor, likely to bring into the world her first successfully birthed child. He knows the clock is ticking. Her trimesters are the timeline of the film. Thomas is also alert to his budding feelings toward the male, and in particular towards Damien. These two fight constantly at school in a dance of ancient "en mask" masculinity and outright fear. Damien, the more openly exploratory, is very close to his mom and dad, with his father being the military officer and hero of his life. He too knows the clock is ticking, taking up boxing to assuage the tension of growing up "this way."As with Elio and Oliver, the Fates are very much at play with both young men and with their sense of adulthood throughout the movie. They are overly attuned to each other from the very start, and they each know it. In Being 17, their classmates and school faculty are ignorant of what drives Thomas and Damien's battles. So too are Damien's parents. All serving as blind witnesses, unlike Mr. Perlman. It is only through Damien's belated confession that his mom can become and is restored as his mother. Thomas has no such parental redemption, his comes through the birth of his new sibling and through his honesty with Damien.

Love's Way
This is a French film with English sub-titles. It is a love story about two young men in what would be classified as total aggression from both, trying to find themselves and love also!! In my 71 years on this planet, I have only seen this happen twice. The first time was very confusing, to watch this enfold, as I was in college! The second time was in the military, talk about being too wild for words?!?!! This story line should be considered for the love story of the century!! NJMJr!!!PS These two actors surely went beyond the call of duty when it came to their portrayals of their characters. For me only the French could make such a superb and extremely high quality film. I shall be watching for the next film by this director! I should like to point out that while this film is fictional, it really occurs in the boarder scope of life!! Immediate and hard fought aggression between two young men can point to a underlining of confusion on gender and love!! Such is life!! NJMJr!!!

Excellence
This is a moving, wonderful film. There is dislike for the phrase "coming of age," cause usually that just means "kids having sex." This movie is so much more than that. The characters are all decent, caring people - that in itself is a rarity. There is an inevitable plot device, but that doesn't detract from the total emotional impact. The direction, photography, and acting are all superior. "Being 17" is a totally worthwhile experience.

One of my new favorite movies.
Well, I have to keep the 5 star ratings going. BEING 17 is a moving exploration of adolescent sexual awakening from renowned French director André Téchiné with director Céline Sciamma. Damien and Thomas are French teenagers from very different upbringings who go to the same high school but can't stand each other. Both of these young men are exceptional actors and get very high marks. One of the boys mom is a doctor and is called on to visit the very sick mom of the other boy and then invites the rural boy to stay with her so he can continue school. well, after a lot of back and forth between the 2 boys much happens in the feelings department. This is one of the most exceptional films gay or straight that I have seen in a very long time so let me recommend this to everyone no matter what your sexuality is. This is a story as old as time and told with respect and dignity.....BRAVO.

Two French 17-year old boys
This is a leisurely film set in the Pyrenees about 2 17-year old boys who initially don't like each other, but are thrown together by circumstances & gradually come to respect each other. One, Damien, (whose mother is a doctor, & is a central character) falls for the other (Thomas), who initially rebuffs him, but then falls in love with him & they spend the night together. However, the following morning, Thomas leaves inexplicably while Damien is still asleep. Damien seeks Thomas out, but Thomas is firendly but a bit distant. This isn't really explained. However, soon they fall into each other's arms & the film ends happily. Splendid views of the Pyrenees, initially in winter, with lots of snow, & later in summer.

Great subtitles make easy to follow
An extremely enjoyable coming out story which deals with a number of issues affecting the two boys in a non American dramatic way this french movie is a great example of the European filmmakers art and a big bonus a happy ending

Wonderful
Loved this movie from beginning to end. The male leads take you on the journey with them as they sort through the emotions and confusion. I found myself rooting for them from the get go and right up till the end. Superb!

I enjoyed this movie. It is in subtitles but that didn't bother me at all. The story and the acting is quite good. I recommend it.
