Where is this item made?

The back of the dishes state: gibsonUSA.com ( China ) Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. It's a similar style to a Potterybarn set I have. These are a lesser quality, lighter and the finish isn't always even, but it's a nice starter set or for use when you need many place settings at a reasonable price. If needed, I would buy these again. :D

Do the dishes get hot in the microwave?

Yes, they do. I have a variety of ways to compensate (bowls are easy to place on the small plates, for example), but after a few minutes in the microwave they will get very hot.

What size are the bowls, how many ounes or cups will each size fit?

the smaller bowls hold 1 cup leaving 1/2 inch from the rim. The larger bowl holds 2 1/3 cups with 1/2 from the rim.
