The first thing I did was plop in some insoles with good arch support. I've always liked a wide boot, Hated having my little toes crushed and rubbed. So I ordered the extra wide. They fit perfectly. Of course they'll still need a little breaking in, but I'm stoked. They are really tough.

I love the half-hide natural leather and I expect it will wear well. Only difference between these 'snoot boots' ( civil war boots ) and my original pair is that the snoot part of the boot is 1/2 inch wider across the tip ( which is great if you have a wide toe spread ). My original boots was about 1/2 inch higher in the heel - but I will take them to a shoe repair and have them add a 1/2 inch rubber heel on to the boot. The shoe shop will be able to blend the addition on to the heel so that it will look like it came that way. I guess I am still stuck in the 1970 mode of how these civil war boots were suppose to look ;) The only other modification I did to these boots was take an exacto razor and cut wear the two straps (per boot) are attached to the sole. This gives the boot the simpler look without worrying about the future when the straps get stretched and flopping around ;) As I said... Nice leather... excellent value

These are beautiful boots. I am a woman, but generally but men's leather boots because they are typically wider and accommodate my feet more comfortably. The other feedback seems to be accurate in reference to sizing. I usually wear an 8 to 8.5 men's, but ordered the 7.5 in standard width. They were comfortable directly out of the box and I would undoubtedly be able to wear them for hours without issue. I have no complaints as the boots were exactly as expected based on pictures. I am most likely returning them strictly for aesthetic reasons; I'm not a fan of bright brass hardware and the leather is just a little bit too pretty for me to be comfortable messing up by breaking them in. There were some other colors that I liked more, but weren't available in my size. Long story longer, these boots are really high quality and worth every penny, just order a half to a whole size down. Also, the shaft is very wide on these (phrasing?). As pictured, my old (and beloved and soon to be re-soled) boots have settled at my ankles because they never fit over my calves. These ones seem a bit bigger and I would be willing to bet that if I wanted to, I could get them stretched the last little bit to fit without them creasing at the ankle-but I like that look, so I probably wouldn't get them stretched. Just know that they are wide and the leather is supple enough to get a little more out of it if needed.

I have wide feet, so I was a little worried whether or not the 3E would be a true, wide 3E. Many shoes/boots I've tried on that are marked as 3E have actually been too snug. I was pleasantly surprised and relieved at the perfect fit in the wide width (and length was perfect). These boots are very comfortable so you can leave them on for hours. The mahogany color was just as pictured. Durable leather has that "new boot" smell. Great boots!
