1941 Replica Lighter

Always have enjoyed the use of a zippo lighter. When I noticed that zippo was producing the replicas I just had to have one. It was available at a great price so I purchased 2 due to sometimes I enjoy giving a zippo to a great friend. Zippo's lifetime guarantee is the best around. Ship it to them and they ship it back in the best possible condition they can achieve. They also install a new internal and send back the old one. If you ask they will sometimes provide extra flint packets. I believe zippo to be the best functioning lighter and especially recommend the new replicas due to they are a limited run and the bonus( that I found by accident or luck) is once in a while they will place an original in the box that says replica. I have been blessed to recieve 1, 1941 and 1, 1935 that do not have replica stamped on the bottom but instead the actual letters that relate it as original and I do use them. I have never replaced anything except flints and fluid and when the wick is used up or I obtain a new Zippo lighter I send the previous one in for repair. Like all true Zippos, this will light in almost any wind or weather. You have a choice between a hundred or more different Zippo designs. Why buy this one? I love this lighter because it is both elegant and no-frills, which is a hard look to achieve. Though the differences are subtle, the rounder lid and sharper side angles give this lighter a kind of vintage appeal that the metal accentuates. While the sides are brushed, as you can see in the picture, the top is a little bit shinier. Personally, I like the contrast. Every time I use this lighter, I feel like it could be the one a GI in WWII used in some small French village. The classic click-snap of the mechanism feels more authentic in this case. There is another popular vintage Zippo being made, patterned on a 1930s model. That model is a little more "elegant" than this one, with a glossier finish and a small stripes on the corners that give it a more upscale look. Some people may prefer that look. I prefer this model, which is more subtly vintage and doesn't try quite so hard. The difference, to me, is that 1930s model looks like it belongs in a mid-century New York skyscraper, and this one was made for the working man of that era. Today, they both look upscale, but this one has a little more of the populist in its design, which I personally prefer. In summary, this blends American utilitarianism with vintage lines. If your vibe is American classic, this is the lighter for you.

Good communication

This particular Zippo is my absolute favorite. The modern variations are much lighter in construction and easily dented compared to this one. The outer case is in fact based upon the Armor Series which is nothing more than how Zippos were constructed years ago. Then, things changed, and the Zippo became less durable. Well, you can opt for the Armor Series or one of these. The Armor Series does not possess the classic deep CLANG! sound that is soooo....Zippo....which is why I like this one. The 1941 Replica also is more rounded and shaped a little differently giving a feel I prefer to the modern versions. If you like Zippos, this is a must buy. I have the chromed and black ice version.

I love this lighter. The texture and finish look amazing, I am very happy with the color/material variant I chose. It’s almost mesmerizing to look at. It feels great in my palm- just the right size. I use standard Zippo lighter fluid and I’m getting right around 2-3 weeks between fill ups and I use it every day. I wish the lighter fluid was a little cheaper, but it’s a small price to pay to have an amazing piece of history in your hands.

Note: This "black ice" color it refers to seems to be brushed steel, a shade darker than chrome. There's nothing black about it. Pros: Snazzier than your standard Zippo. Nice cruves, slightly larger than the current model. 1941 seems like a fantastic year to model after. It feels almost broken-in, but I imagine this is either its slightly less compact, less efficient design, or its manufacture was slightly lower quality than the current model. That's part of the appeal. It feels old-timey. But really, the look and feel is what it has going for it. You've never seen or felt a lighter like this... unless you've sought out antique lighters. Cons: Aforementioned feel. The current Zippo wouldn't think of opening while being pulled out of your pocket--it's just that tightly designed and constructed. It really feels machined and refined. Contrast to this which feels less like a classically-engineered piece and more like what it was... a mechanical cigarette lighter, 10 years out of the gate, not quite the icon of American manufacturing that it would become. And that's both its appeal and its drawback. Don't take it on a camping trip and rely on it to start your fire. A Bic would be more reliable. Which leads to one more con, and you may already be privy to this: Zippos are notorious for burning through the basics. Yes, it's simple, yes it can heavy use for decades and continue to ignite. Yes, it needs to be constantly refilled with Zippo fuel or Ronsonol. All the time. Let it sit around for a week or two and it will exhaust all of its fuel without even being used. When you really, really need to light something, the steel wheel will grind to a halt, with no flint left to spark. And that's lack of progress. And there's beauty in that too.

He doesn't really smoke much but the throwback design is cool and he liked it

I absolutely love my lighter! You can light it in near any wind and I love the look and feel of the 1941 Replica! Zippo manufacturers high quality lighters at decent prices. You cannot beat their build quality, look, and that oh-so-signature *ping!* when you flip it open. I have no doubts this lighter will last me longer than I would even need it.

Awesome quality and finish

I've had mine now for six months. Not long but, as a virtual chain-smoker, it's had a fair ammount of use and abuse. Took a week to arrive, which was faster than the delivery estimate so no complaints about service. It arrived in good dondition and both the lighter and packaging were in perfect condition. The finish looks better in the flesh than the photos indicate. Seen from an oblique angle, the brushed sides appear almost black, so it's name is no misnomer. What separates this from other Zippos is the four hinge lid bracket, as opposed to the standard five. This construction makes for a greater sense of robustness than the five-hinged varients. Friends who bought current model Zippos at around the same time as I have lighters which already have a decidedly sloppy feel when opening them. Mine still feels as firm as the day it arrived and has a pleasing snap on closing. Strangely, it also feels nicer to hold than its modern counterparts due to its more rounded casing. The only downsides are that you need to use Zippo flints, as the more commonly available types (Swan, etc) are too long which can be a pain. Stock up on Zippo flints to avoid severe irritation... The second concerns the brushed finish. If you walk around with it in a pocket along with coins or the like, the finish (very) quickly becomes scratched. Personally, I rather like it. Adds to the character. Hors d' combat and all that. If you want to keep yours pristine however, this has to be considered. I've owned several Zippos over the years and this is certainly the best. Oh, and the hinge makes for a good conversation starter with other weed addicts. If you're after a Zippo, this is the one to have. I just wish they'd make a version with their heavy duty brass casing...
